Europa League Qualifying

The second qualifying round for the Europa League commenced on Thursday with the opening match of each of the 40----count ‘em----40 series.

At Astana, Kazakhstan:

Roger Canas (PK-16'), Tanat Busserbayev (58'), and Abzal Beysebekov (69') delivered the goals for FC Astana as they dominated visiting Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-0 in the opening contest of their two-match series.

At Almaty, Kazakhstan:

Mohammed Fellah's equalizer in the second minute of second-half stoppage time lifted Esbjerg fB to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with FC Kairat, whose goal came from Josip Knezevic in the form of a successful penalty kick in the 50th minute.

At Kosice, Slovakia:

Marek Jarolim's successful penalty kick in the 83rd minute carried FC Slovan Liberec to a series-opening 1-0 road victory over MFK Kosice.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Matej Palcic scored the winning goal in the 41st minute as FC Koper held off home-standing Neftchi Baku PFK 2-1 in the opening game of their two-match series.

At Lac, Albania:

Zeljko Ljubenovic scored what proved to be the insurance goal in the 47th minute as FC Zorya Luhansk will be heading back to Ukraine with a decided advantage following their series-opening 3-0 road domination of KF Laci.

At Minsk, Belarus:

FC Dinamo Minsk, with Chigozie Udoji (25'), Ihar Stasevich (PK-61'), and Nemanja Nikolic (86') each delivering a goal, dominated visiting MYPA 3-0 in game one.

At Niksic, Montenegro:

Roberto Garcia Cabello (36') and Ucha Lobjanidze (79') each tallied once as Omonia blanked FK Buducnost Podgorica 2-0 in the first contest of the clubs' two-game series.

At Dubnica nad Vahom, Slovakia:

Moses Simon delivered a natural hat trick (20', 53', 60') as FK AS Trencin demolished visiting FK Vojvodina 4-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Tallinn, Estonia:

Hidetoshi Wakui scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute as Nomme Kalju FC defeated visiting Lech Poznan 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Zestaponi, Georgia:

The opening match of the series between FC Zestafoni and visiting FC Spartak Trnava ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

At Klaipeda, Lithuania:

FK Atlantas and visting FC Shakhter Karagandy battled to a series-opening 0-0 deadlock.

At Gliwice, Poland:

Piotr Stawarczyk scored twice (20', 74') as Ruch Chorzow defeated visiting FC Vaduz 3-2 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Oulu, Finland:

RoPS  and visiting Asteras Tripoli FC battled to a 1-1 series-opening draw.  Jarkko Lahdenmaki scored for the hosts in the second minute, only to see the Greek Galacticos' Khalifa Sankare equalize in the 10th minute.

At Boras, Sweden:

Slavco Georgievski scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute as Inter Baku took the opening game of their series with IF Elfsborg 1-0 on the road.

At Ploiesti, Romania:

Gevaro Nepomuceno (77') and Toto Tamuz (84') each scored a goal in the final quarter-hour as FC Petrolul Ploiesti blanked Flamurtari Vlore 2-0 in match one.

At Burgas, Bulgaria:

Lazar Marin scored the winning goal in the 86th minute as Botev Plovdiv took the opening match of their series with SKN St. Polten 2-1.  Daniel Segovia kept the Austrian second-division club in the series with his tally in the 65th minute.

At Grodno, Belarus:

Pavel Savitski's penalty kick in the 66th minute enabled FC Neman Grodno salvaged a series-opening 1-1 home draw with FH Hafnarfjordur.  Kristjan Emilsson scored for the Icelandic club in the 55th minute.

At Stockholm, Sweden:

Dardan Rexhepi got the scoring started in the ninth minute as IF Brommapojkarna demolished visiting Crusaders FC in the clubs' series opener 4-0.

At Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic:

Jin Skalak (68') and Michal Duris (76') provided the goals as FK Mlada Boleslav overtook visiting NK Siroki Brijeg 2-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.  Goran Zakaric kept the Bosnian club in the series with his goal in the 51st minute.

At Trondheim, Norway:

Alan Keane (56') and Danny North (70') produced the scoring that enabled Ireland's Sligo Rovers to take the opening match of their series with Rosenborg 2-1 on the road.

At Cluj-Napoca, Romania:

CFR Cluj and visiting FK Jagodina from Serbia battled to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate.

At Lucerne, Switzerland:

Marco Schneuwly's equalizer in the 67th minute as FC Lucerne salvaged a series-opening 1-1 home draw with St. Johnstone.  Steven MacLean scored for the visiting Saints from Scotland in the 47th minute.

At Sofia, Bulgaria:

Anton Karachanakov's equalizer in the 41st minute enabled PFC CSKA Sofia to salvage a series-opening 1-1 draw with FC Zimbru Chisinau.  Serghei Alexeev scored for the Moldovan club in the 31st minute.

At Lovech, Bulgaria:

Milan Nemeth (83') and Miroslav Grumic (90') produced the scoring in the waning minutes as Diosgyor blanked PFC Litex Lovech 2-0 on the road in the opening match of their two-game series.


At Gyor, Hungary:

Lasse Vibe (8'), Jakob Johansson (56'), and May Mahlangu (83') delivered the scoring as IFK Gothenburg will head back to Sweden with a decisive advantage after their series-opening 3-0 road beat-down of Gyor.

At Toftir, Faroe Islands:

Norway's Tromso IL held hosts Vikingur to a series-opening 0-0 deadlock.

At Waregem, Belgium:

SV Zulte Waregem, with Steve Colpaert (8') and Glynor Plet (45') delivering the scoring, defeated visiting Zawisza Bydgoszcz 2-1 in game one of their two-match series.  Kamil Drygas scored in the 15th minute as the Polish club remained alive in the series with a potentially precious road goal.

At Molde, Norway:

Vegard Forren scored twice (37', PK-41') as Molde FK dominated visiting  ND Gorica 4-1 in the opening contest of their two-game series.

At Skopje, Macedonia:

FK Metalurg Skopje and visiting FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo battled to a series-opening 0-0 draw.

At Split, Croatia:

RNK Split, with Tomislav Dujmovic (78') and Mate Bilic (PK-86') each scored a goal, came from behind to upend visiting  Hopoel Be’er Sheva FC 2-1 in game one of their two-match series.  Maor Buzaglo scored for the visiting Israeli club in the 31st minute.

At Bursa, Turkey:

Bursaspor battled visiting FC Chikhura Sachkhere to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate

At Rijeka, Croatia:

Ivan Krstanovic successfully converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute as HNK Rijeka took the opening match of their two-game series with Hungary's  Ferencvaros 1-0 at home.

At Tallinn, Estonia:

Ari da Silva Ferreira got the goal scoring started in the ninth minute as FC Krasnodar will have a big-time advantage to take back to Russia after their series-opening 4-0 road demolition of JK Sillamae Kalev as four goal scorers each tallied once.

At Motherwell, Scotland:

Olafur Finsen scored twice (35', 90'+2) as Stjarnan erased a two-goal deficit to gain a series-opening road draw with Motherwell.  Josh Law scored both goals for the Steelmen (9', 19').

At Aberdeen, Scotland:

Aberdeen and visiting FC Groningen from the Netherlands battled to a series-opening 0-0 deadlock.

At Lurgan, Northern Ireland:

Andrew Waterworth scored the only goal of the match in the 87th minute as Linfield defeated visiting AIK 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game series with the Swedish club.

At Derry, Northern Ireland:

Nikolai Yanush scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute as FC Shakhtyor Salihorsk knocked off Derry City 1-0 on the road in the opening match of their match with the club from Northern Ireland that plays in the Republic of Ireland's top flight.

At Dundalk, Republic of Ireland:

Mijo Caktas (9') and Nikola Vlasic (73') each delivered the goals as Hajduk Split opened their two-match series with Dundalk FC with a game-one 2-0 road blanking of the Irish club.

At Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina:

Daniel Bamberg scored the only goal of the match in the 85th minute as FK Haugesund knocked off FK Sarajevo 1-0 on the road in the opening match of their two-game series. 

At Belgrade, Serbia:

Stefan Nutz (37', 90') and Daniel Schutz (80', 85') each scored twice as SV Grodig will head back to Austria with a huge advantage after their series-opening 4-0 demolition of FK Cukaricki on the road.
