MLS: Red Bulls, Caps, Revs, Galaxy, Timbers Garner Saturday Wins; Quakes Eliminated From Playoff Contention

Five games were contested in Major League Soccer on Saturday.

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Thierry Henry scored the only goal of the match in the 47th minute as the New York Red Bulls, despite losing Tim Cahill to a straight red card in the 88th minute (just three minutes after entering the game as a substitute), defeated the visiting Houston Dynamo 1-0.

At Vancouver, British Columbia:

Sebastian Fernandez scored twice (14', 18') as the Vancouver Whitecaps held on to the Western Conference's fifth and final playoff spot with a 2-0 home win over FC Dallas.

At Foxborough, Massachusetts:

Jermaine Jones scored the winning goal in the 67th minute as the New England Revolution climbed within four points of Eastern Conference-leading DC United following their 2-1 home win over the ten-man Columbus Crew.

At Carson, California:

Robbie Keane scored twice (22', 25') as the Los Angeles Galaxy took over (for the time being) sole possession of first place, both in the Western Conference standings and Supporters' Shield race with their 3-0 home domination of Toronto FC.  Landon Donovan assisted on the second Robbie Keane goal to become the all-time assist leader in MLS history with 136.

At Santa Clara, California:

Rodney Wallace scored twice in the second half (71', 74) as the Portland Timbers came from behind to upend the home-standing (and ten-man) San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 to stay within one point of the final Western Conference playoff berth while eliminating the Quakes from playoff contention.
