Copa Libertadores: Racing Club, Guarani Lock Up Knockout-Stage Berths As Play In Group Eight Concludes

Four games were played in the Copa Libertadores' group stage on Tuesday.

GROUP THREE:


At Buenos Aires:

Ramon Abila scored twice (14', 25') as Club Atletico Huracan defeated visiting Cruzeiro 3-1.

At Sucre, Bolivia:

Leonardo Castro (45'+1) and Miguel Suarez (84') produced the goals as Universitario remained atop Group Three with one game remaining following their 2-0 home blanking of Mineros de Guayana.

Group Three Standings:

1.    Universitario (GP: 5; GD: +3; PTS: 9)
2.    Cruzeiro (GP: 5; GD: +3; PTS: 8)
3.    Club Atletico Huracan (GP: 5; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
4. z-Mineros de Guayana (GP: 5; GD: -8; PTS: 1)

z-Eliminated from tournament



GROUP EIGHT:

At Lima, Peru:

Federico Santander's goal in the 13th minute enabled Club Guarani to gain a 1-1 road draw with Sporting Cristal, good enough to clinch a berth in the knockout stage.  Sergio Blanco scored in the 58th minute for the Peruvian club, who were eliminated from the tournament.

At Avellaneda, Argentina:

Brian Fernandez scored the winning goal in the 90th minute as Racing Club de Avellaneda locked up top spot in Group Eight with their 3-2 home win over Deportivo Tachira.

Final Group Eight Standings:

1. Racing Club de Avellaneda (GP: 6; GD: +8; PTS: 12)
2. Club Guarani (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 9)
3. Sporting Cristal (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 7)
4. Deportivo Tachira (GP: 6; GD: -9; PTS: 3)

Racing Club de Avellaneda and Club Guarani advanced to the knockout stage.
