OFC Champions League: Group-Stage Play Opens In Fiji

Group-stage play in the OFC Champions League commenced on Saturday.  All games in the tournament clear through the final are being played in Fiji.  Four games were contested on Saturday.

GROUP A:

All games in this group are being played at Govind Park in Ba.

In the opening contest, Scott Gannon (8'), Suivai Ataga (58'), and Luki Gosche (69') each scored a goal as Lupe ole Soaga (Samoa) battled back from a two-goal deficit to gain a 3-3 draw with AS Pirae.  Jay Warren (2'), Heiarli Tavanae (16'), and Teaonui Tehau (23') each scored a goal for the French Polynesian (Tahitian) club in the first half-hour.

In the nightcap, Abbu Shaheed (21'), Malakai Tiwa (33'), and Avinesh Suwamy (88') each scored a goal as Ba FC did the host country proud by dominating Gaitcha FCN from New Caledonia 3-0.

GROUP B:

All games in this group are being played at National Stadium in Suva.

In the opener, David Browne (PK-12'), Sam Burfoot (64'), and Adam McGeorge (86') each scored a goal as defending champions Auckland City dominated Suva FC from the host country 3-0.

In the nightcap, Miguel Magnoni scored the only goal of the match in the 49th minute as Amicale FC from Vanuatu defeated Western United from the Solomon Islands 1-0.
