SKC TOP PHILLY IN PK SHOOTOUT TO CAPTURE US OPEN CUP CROWN AND BERTH IN '16-'17 CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

At Chester, Pennsylvania:

After a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes, Benny Feilhaber, Dom Dwyer, Matt Besler, Paulo Nagamura, Graham Zusi, Kevin Ellis, and with the game winner, Jordi Quintilla, all converted their spot kicks as Sporting Kansas City won their third US Open Cup championship on Wednesday night winning the penalty-kick shootout 7-6 over the home-standing Philadelphia Union.  Sporting won their third major trophy in four years (the Open Cup title in 2012 and 2015 and the MLS Cup in 2013; as the Kansas City Wizards, they also won the Open Cup in 2002) and qualified for the group stage of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League.

The Union came up short in the Open Cup final for the second straight year.
