US Open Cup

20 games were on the Wednesday schedule for the second round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

At Cincinnati:

Jimmy McLaughlin scored the winning goal in the 61st minute as FC Cincinnati (USL) defeated visiting Indy Eleven NPSL 2-1.

At West Chester, Pennsylvania:

Bobby Warshaw (13') and Matt Bolduc (49') delivered the goals as the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL) blanked hosts West Chester United (USASA) 2-0.

At Richmond, Virginia:

Sunny Jane opened the scoring in the second minute as the Richmond Kickers (USL) scored twice in each half en route to a 4-0 home demolition of Aromas Cafe of the USASA.

At Charlotte, North Carolina:

Christopher Hellman (44') and Jorge Herrera (50') produced the goal power to carry the Charlotte Independence (USL) to a 2-0 road blanking of the PDL's Charlotte Eagles in a Queen City derby.

At Wilmington, North Carolina:

Austin Martz delivered a first-half hat trick (6', 19', 32) while Kyle Parker added a second-half double (78', 90'+2) as the Wilmington Hammerheads (USL) devoured visiting Miami Fusion FC (NPSL) 6-0.

At Louisville, Kentucky:

After a 1-1 deadlock through 120 minutes Louisville City FC (USL) won the penalty-kick shootout over visiting Detroit City FC (NPSL) 3-1.

At Rochester, New York:

The Rochester Rhinos (USL), with Asani Samuels delivering a hat trick (44', 45', 48'), destroyed visiting Southie FC (USASA) 7-0.

At Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:

Craig Purcell (10') and James Kavanagh (76') each scored once as the Lansdowne Bhoys (USASA) knocked off the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL) 2-0 on the road.

At Charleston, South Carolina:

After a 2-2 draw following 90 minutes of regulation followed by a half-four of scoreless overtime, The Villages SC from the PDL upended the home-standing Charleston Battery (USL) by winning the penalty-kick shootout 4-2.

At Chattanooga, North Carolina:

After 120 minutes of scoreless soccer, Chattanooga FC (NPSL) took the penalty-kick shootout 4-1 at visiting PDL club Reading United's expense.

At Clinton, Mississippi:

In another match that went goal-free through 120 minutes, visiting Oklahoma City Energy FC won a lengthy penalty-kick penalty shootout 10-9 over Mississippi Brilla.  OKC goalkeeper C.J. Cochran stopped two Brilla shots during the shootout as the visiting USL club survived a marathon match against the PDL home club.

At Fenton, Missouri:

Jamiel Hardware (22') and Jordan Roberts (77') each scored twice as Saint Louis FC (USL) blanked visiting AFC Cleveland (NPSL) 2-0.

At San Antonio, Texas:

In a San Antonio derby, Jacques Francois scored twice (70', 74') as San Antonio FC (USL) defeated visiting Corinthians FC of San Antonio (NPSL) 3-1.

At West Des Moines, Iowa:

Sean (Don't Call Me Ren) Hoek (70') and Elvir Ibisevic (82') each scored once as the Des Moines Menace (PDL) knocked off the visiting Tulsa Roughnecks (USL) 2-0.

At Colorado Springs, Colorado:

Davy Armstrong scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute as the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (USL) knocked out visiting Harpo's FC (the tourney's lone USSSA entry) 1-0.

At Westminster, California:

La Maquina FC (USASA), with Edwin Balboa (70') and Jose Castro Perez (79') each scoring once, knocked off the visiting Sacramento Gold (NPSL) 1-0.

At Wilmington, California:

After a 1-1 deadlock through overtime, the Los Angeles Wolves (USASA) defeated visiting Orange County Blues FC (USL) 4-2 in the penalty-kick shootout.

At Tucson, Arizona:

Long Tan scored twice (33', 68') minutes as Arizona United (USL) destroyed hosts FC Tucson (PDL) 5-0.

At Bremerton, Washington:

In a battle of PDL clubs, the Kitsap Pumas defeated the Seattle Sounders' visiting Under-23 squad 1-0.

At Sacramento, California:

Alfonso Motagalvan opened the scoring at 24 minutes as the Sacramento Republic (USL), with five goal scorers each tallying once, buried visiting CD Anguiluchos 5-0 (NPSL).


NOTE:  The Los Angeles Wolves were awarded a second-round berth by default after the PDL's Ventura County Fusion were disqualified after it was discovered that they used a player cup-tied to Cal FC as the Wolves' protest was upheld.  The game in questione was played on May 11.
