Copa America: Team USA Holds Off Paraguay, Advances To Quarterfinals; Ticos Knock Off Colombia, Clinches Group A Title For Americans

Action from Group A of the Copa America concluded with two games on Saturday.

At Philadelphia:

Clint Dempsey scored the only goal of the match in the 27th minute as the United States, despite playing virtually the entire second half with ten men after DeAndre Yedlin's red-card ejection (48'), held off Paraguay 1-0 to lock up a berth in the quarterfinal round.

At Houston:

Celso Borges scored the winning goal in the 58th minute as Costa Rica knocked off Colombia 3-2.  As a result of this game, as well as Team USA's win over Paraguay, the Americans win Group A.

Final Group A Standings:

1. United States (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 6)
2. Colombia (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 6)
3. Costa Rica (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 4)
4. Paraguay (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 1)

The United States and Colombia advanced to the quarterfinal round.
