Euro 2016: Germany, Poland Advance To Knockout Stage; Croatia Knock Off Spain, Win Group D; Green and White Army Advance Too Despite Losing; Slovakia Clinch Round of 16 Berth; Turkey Still Alive After Beating Czech Republic

Four games were played in France as group-stage action in the European Championship continued.

GROUP C:

At Marseille:

Jakub Blaszczykowski scored the only goal of the match in the 54th minute as Poland defeated Ukraine 1-0 and advanced to the knockout stage.  That's Jakob here, celebrating after scoring the goal that sent Poland to the Round of 16.

At Paris:

Mario Gomez scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute (shown here) as Germany won Group B following their 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland.  The Green and White Army still advanced as one of the four best third-placed teams thanks to Turkey's win over the Czech Republic (by too small a margin).  This result also clinched a berth in the knockout stage for Slovakia, who finished third in Group B.

FINAL GROUP C STANDINGS:

1. Germany (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 7)
2. Poland (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
3. Northern Ireland (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 3)
4. Ukraine (GP: 3; GD: -5; PTS: 0)

Germany, Poland, and Northern Ireland advanced to the knockout stage.  Ukraine have been eliminated.



GROUP D:

At Lens:

Burak Yilmaz (10') and Ozan Tufan (65') each scored a goal at Turkey blanked (and eliminated) the Czech Republic 2-0.  The Turks can still advance to the knockout stage with one of the four best third-place finishes.  Here's Turkish goalkeeper Volkan Babacan who ended up with a shutout.

At Bordeaux:

Ivan Perisic scored the winning goal in the 87th minute as Croatia knocked off Spain 2-1 to win Group D as both squads advanced to the knockout stage.  Here, we see Spain's Sergio Ramos pondering after having failed on his penalty-kick attempt in the 72nd minute.

1. Croatia (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 7)
2. Spain (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 6)
3. Turkey (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 3)
4. Czech Republic (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 1)

Croatia and Spain advanced to the knockout stage.  Turkey can still qualify for the Round of 16 with one of the four best third-placed group-stage finishes.  The Czech Republic have been eliminated.
