MLS: Galaxy. Hoops Gather Independence Day Wins; Goose Eggs For Timbers and Rapids as Tim Howard Pitches Shutout In MLS Return

Three Independence Day matches were contested in Major League Soccer.

At Commerce City, Colorado:

The contest between the Colorado Rapids and visiting Portland Timbers ended in a 0-0 stalemate as the Rapids' Tim Howard, in his first MLS action since 2003 when he was with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, and the Timbers' Jake Geeson each delivered a shutout.

At Frisco, Texas:

Walker Zimmerman (11'), Michael Barrios (21'), Matt Hedges (61'), and Fabian Castillo (90'+2) each scored once as FC Dallas demolished visiting Orlando City 4-0.

At Carson, California:

Robbie Keane (12') and Jeff Larentowicz (47') each scored a goal (assisted in both cases by Steven Gerrard) as the Los Angeles Galaxy blanked the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0.
