Europa League: Zenit, Ajax, Shakhtar Donetsk, Royal Blues Advance To Knockout Stage

24 games were contested on Thursday as the second half of Europa League group-stage play commenced.

GROUP A:

At Istanbul, Turkey:

Jeremain Lens scored the winning goal in the 59th minute as Fenerbahce knocked off visiting Manchester United 2-1.

At Odessa, Ukraine:

Rafael Forster's equalizer in the 44th minute enabled Zorya Luhansk to gain a 1-1 draw with visiting Feyenoord Rotterdam.  Nicolai Jorgensen scored in the 15th minute for the Dutch club.

At Astana, Kazakhstan:

Seba's equalizer in the 30th minute carried Olympiacos to a 1-1 road draw with Astana.  Dorde Despotovic scored in the eighth minute for the hosts.

At Nicosia, Cyprus:

Pieros Soteriou scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute as APOEL FC defeated visiting BSC Young Boys 1-0.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Robert Beric scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute as Saint-Etienne defeated Gabala 2-1 on the road, eliminating the Azerbaijani club from European competition.

At Brussels, Belgium:

Nicolae Stanciu (9', 41') and Lukasz Teodorczyk (89', PK-90'4) each scored twice as RSC Anderlecht demolished visiting Mainz 6-1.

At Neatnya, Israel:

Maccabi Tel Aviv and visiting AZ Alkmaar played to a 0-0 stalemate.

At Bucharest, Romania:

Michal Krmencik's 25th-minute equalizer lifted FC Viktoria Plzen to a 1-1 road draw with Astra Giurgiu.  Alexandru Stan scored for the Romanian club in the 19th minute.

At Bilbao, Spain:

A five-goal performance from Artiz Aduritz (8', PK-24', PK-44', 74', PK-90'+4), including three successfully-executed penalty kicks, carried Athletic Bilbao to a 5-3 road win over KRC Genk.

At Citta del Tricolore, Italy:

Matej Jelic (86') and Giorgi Kvilitaia (90') in the final minutes enabled Rapid Vienna to come back from two goals down to gain a 2-2 road draw with Sassuolo.  Gregoire Defrel (34') and Lorenzo Pellegrini (45'+3) each scored once in the first half for the Black and Greens.

2. Athletic Bilbao (GP: 4; GD: -2; PTS: 6)

NOTE:  With Rapid Vienna having scored three goals each in the two contests between the clubs, Rapid scored two away goals, compared to the Black and Greens' one.

At Amsterdam, Netherlands:

Amin Younes scored the winning goal in the 71st minute as Ajax Amsterdam held off visiting Celta Vigo 3-2 and locked up a berth in the Europa League's knockout stage.

At Athens, Greece:

Ishak Belfodil scored twice (78', 90'+3) as Standard Liege dominate Panathinaikos 3-0 on the road.

Group G Standings:

Frederico Rodrigues Santos---known to one and all as Fred---scored what proved to be the game winner in the 68th minute as Shakhtar Donetsk locked up a berth in the knockout stage following their 5-3 road win over KAA Gent.

At Braga, Portugal:

Wilson Eduardo scored the winning goal in the first minute of first-half stoppage time as SC Braga defeated visiting Konysapor 3-1.

At Nice, France:

Hwang Hee-chan scored twice in a one-minute span in the second half (72', 73') as FC Red Bull Salzburg proved to have the nice game as they blanked Nice 2-0 on the road.

Miguel Marcos Madera (a.k.a. Michel) scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute as Qarabag knocked off PAOK FC 1-0 on the road.

Yuto Nagatomo's own goal in the 70th minute proved fatal as Southampton defeated visiting Inter Milan 2-1.
