Copa Libertadores Qualifying: A Good Night For Paraguayan Clubs As Olimpia And Deportivo Capiata Overcame Series-Opening Defeats To Advance; The Strongest Oust Wanderers To Advance As Well

The second round of Copa Libertadores qualifying concluded on Thursday with three games.

At La Paz, Bolivia:

Matias Alonso scored twice (38', 59') as The Strongest lived up to their name and demolished visiting Montevideo Wanderers 4-0 in game two and closed out their lopsided series with their Uruguayan guests 6-0 on aggregate and advanced to the third qualifying round.

At Asuncion, Paraguay:

Julian Benitez (8'), Brian Montenegro (26'), and Roque Santa Cruz (81') each scored once as Club Olimpia overcame their series-opening road defeat with a 3-1 game-two home triumph over Independiente del Valle and knocked out the Ecuadorian club 3-2 on aggregate.

At Lima, Peru:

Roberto Gamarra scored twice (17', 34') and Dionicio Perez once (66') as Deportivo Capiata overcame their 3-1 series-opening home defeat with a 3-0 game-two road domination of Universitario de Deportes and won their series 4-3 on aggregate.


Here are the matchups for the third qualifying (or playoff) round, with the game-one hosts listed first and the scheduled dates of both games in each of the four series:

Deportivo Capiata (Paraguay) vs. Altetico Paranaense (Brazil), Next Wednesday and February 22

Botafogo (Brazil) vs. Club Olimpia (Paraguay), Next Wednesday and February 22

Union Espanola (Chile) vs. The Strongest (Bolivia), Next Thursday and February 23

Atletico Tucuman (Argentina) vs. Junior (Colombia), Next Thursday and February 23

The winners would advance to the group stage.
