2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (CONCACAF): Panama Advance To Third Qualifying Round; Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Belize Eliminated

Ten games were played on Tuesday as CONCACAF regional qualifying (second round) for the 2014 FIFA World Cup continued.


Group A:


At Paramaribo, Suriname:


Erick Ozuna scored twice (47', 75') as the Dominican Republic delivered a damaging blow to Suriname's hopes of advancing by winning 3-1 on the road.


At San Salvador, El Salvador:


Victor Turcios (6'), Steve Purdy (13'), Jaime Alas (42'), and Herbert Sosa (PK-88') each scored once in El Salvador's 4-0 home beat down of the Cayman Islands.


GROUP A STANDINGS:


1. El Salvador (GP: 4; GD: +9; PTS: 12)
2. Suriname (GP: 4; GD: 0; PTS: 7)
3. o-Dominican Republic (GP: 4; GD: 0; PTS: 4)

Group B:


At Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago:


Lester Peltier's natural hat trick (7', 54', 62') played a major role in Trinidad and Tobago's 4-0 home demolition of Barbados.


At Hamilton, Bermuda:


Ricky Shakes' 81st-minute equalizer lifted Guyana to a 1-1 road draw with Bermuda, eliminating the island nation from contention for advancing to the third qualifying round.  John Nusum scored for the hosts at 71 minutes.

2. Trinidad and Tobago (GP: 4; GD: +6; PTS: 9)
3. o-Bermuda (GP: 4; GD: -1; PTS: 4)

Group C:


At Panama City, Panama:


In a multiple-goal night for Luis Tejada (29', 64') and Blas Perez (49', 52', 87'), Panama dominated visiting Nicaragua 5-1 and won the Group C title, clinching a berth in the third qualifying round in the process.


GROUP C STANDINGS:


1. x-Panama (GP: 3; GD: +10; PTS: 9)
2. Nicaragua (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 3)
3. Dominica (GP: 3; GD: -7; PTS: 0)


x-Won Group C and qualified for the third qualifying round.


NOTE:  Panama will be placed in Group C of the third qualifying round, alongside Honduras, Cuba, and the Group D winner from the second qualifying round, either Canada or Saint Kitts and Nevis.


Group D:


At Toronto:


Group-leading Canada were held to a 0-0 home stalemate by Puerto Rico, who were eliminated.


At Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis:


Ian Lake's equalizer  in the 84th minute salvaged a 1-1 home deadlock for Saint Kitts and Nevis in their match with Saint Lucia, whose goal came at 75 minutes from Cliff Valcin.


GROUP D STANDINGS:


1. Canada (GP: 4; GD: +13; PTS: 10)
2. Saint Kitts and Nevis (GP: 4; GD: +2; PTS: 6)
3. o-Puerto Rico (GP: 4; GD: -3; PTS: 3)
4. o-Saint Lucia (GP: 4; GD: -12; PTS: 1)

Group E:


At Guatemala City, Guatemala:


In Tuesday's only Group E contest, Carlos Gallardo (PK-6'), Minor Lopez (65'), and Carlos Ruiz (81') each scored once as Guatemala came within one point of advancing by eliminating visiting Belize 3-1.

Group F:


At Port-au-Prince, Haiti:


Jean-Eudes Maurice (PK-25') and Jean-Jacques Pierre (62') provided the scoring the enabled Haiti to erase an early two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 home draw with Curacao.  Rocky Siberie (7') and Sendley Bito (14') provided the goals for the visitors.


At North Sound, Antigua:


Hat tricks from Tamarley Thomas (6', 41', 78') and Peter Byers (23', 30', 39') as well as a double from Randolph Burton (54', 66') helped Antigua and Barbuda destroy the visiting United States Virgin Islands 10-0.

2. Haiti (GP: 4; GD: +15; PTS: 10)
3. o-Curacao (GP: 4; GD: -6; PTS: 1)
