AFC Champions League: It's FC Seoul vs. Guangzhou Evergrande For The Marbles

Two games were played on Wednesday as the semifinal round of the AFC Champions League came to a close.

At Guangzhou, China:

Muriqui scored twice (79', 87') as Guangzhou Evergrande demolished visiting Kashiwa Reysol 4-0 in game two and finished their two-match brassknuckling of the Japanese club 8-1 on aggregate.

At Tehran, Iran:

Ha Dae-Sung (37') and Kim Jin-Kyu (PK-80') each tallied once as FC Seoul gained a 2-2 game-two road draw with Esteghlal and a 4-2 aggregate victory for their two-game series.

On October 25-26, FC Seoul will host the opening match of the two-game final with Guangzhou Evergrande hosting the return contest two weeks later.  The winner will play in December's FIFA Club World Cup, to take place in Morocco.

AFC Champions League: FC Seoul, Guangzhou Evergrande Open Semis With Game-One Wins

The semifinal round of the AFC Champions League commenced on Wednesday with two games.

At Kashiwa, Japan:

Dario Conca scored twice (67', 82') as Guangzhou Evergrande dominated the opening game of their series with Kashiwa Reysol 4-1 on the road.

At Seoul, South Korea:

Dejan Damjanovic (39') and Yo-Han Ko (47') delivered the goals as FC Seoul blanked visiting Esteghlal 2-0 in the opening match of their semifinal series.

AFC Champions League

The quarterfinal round of the AFC Champions League concluded with four games played on Wednesday.

At Seoul, South Korea:

Dejan Damjanovic scored the only goal of the match in the 90th minute as FC Seoul defeated visiting Al-Ahli 1-0 in game two and won their two-match series 2-1 on aggregate.

At Buriram, Thailand:

Hanif Omranzadeh (53') and Andranik Teymourian (90'+2) each delivered a goal as Esteghlal defeated Buriram United 2-1 on the road in game two and took their two-match series 3-1 on aggregate.

At Doha, Qatar:

Elkeson scored twice (16', 77') as Guangzhou Evergrande defeated Lekhwiya 4-1 on the road in game two, enabling the Chinese club to win their two-match series 6-1 on aggregate.

At Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:

Kwak Tae-Hwi (OG-13') and Naoya Hondo (73') each scored twice as Kashiwa Reysol gained a 2-2 game-two road draw with Al-Shabab, enabling the Japanese club, with the aggregate score at 3-3, to advance to the semifinal round on away goals.

The opening games will take place next Wednesday, with the return matches to be played on October 2.  The semifinal winners would meet in a two-match final, set to start on October 25 or 26, with game two to take place on November 8 or 9.  The winner then would play in December's FIFA Club World Cup, to take place in Morocco.

AFC Champions League: Saudi Clubs Settle For Draws; Guangzhou Evergrande, Esteghlal Post Series-Opening Wins

The quarterfinal round of the AFC Champions League opened with four games on Wednesday.


At Kashiwa, Japan:

Fernando Menegazzo's equalizer in the 44th minute lifted Al-Shabab to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with Kashiwa Reysol.  Masato Kudo scored in the 21st minute for the hosts.

At Guangzhou, China:

Dario Conca (PK-73') and Elkeson (76') each scored a goal as Guangzhou Evergrande blanked visiting Lekhwiya 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Tehran, Iran:

Khosro Heydari's opening-minute tally held up as Esteghlal defeated visiting Buriram United 1-0 in match one.

At Buraidah, Saudi Arabia:

Sultan Al Sawadi's equalizer in the 80th minute enabled Al-Ahli to salvage a series-opening 1-1 home draw with FC Seoul. Dejan Damjanovic scored for the visiting South Korean club in the tenth minute.

AFC Champions League: Kashiwa Reysol, Guangzhou Evergrande, Lekhwiya, Esteghlal Advance To Quarterfinals

The AFC Champions League's Round of 16 concluded on Wednesday with four games.

At Kashiwa, Japan:

Hirofume Watanabe (44'), Jorge Wagner (51'), and Masato Kudo (69') each scored once as Kashiwa Reysol defeated visiting Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 3-2 in game two of their two-game series, which they won 5-2 on aggregate.

At Guangzhou, China:

Muriqui (7'), Dario Conca (PK-45'+1), and Gao Lin (68') each delivered a goal as Guangzhou Evergrande dominated the visiting Central Coast Mariners 3-0 in game two and took their two-game set 5-1 on aggregate.

At Doha, Qatar:

Issiar Dia (14') and Mohamed Musa (52') provided the scoring as Lekhwiya, despite blowing a two-goal lead and settling for a 2-2 game-two home draw with Al-Hilal, still won their two-match series 3-2 on aggregate.

At Tehran, Iran:

Despite being held to a 0-0 game-two home stalemate with Al-Shabab Al-Arabi, Esteghlal still won their two-game series 4-2 on aggregate.

AFC Champions League: FC Seoul, Burinam United Advance To Quarterfinals

The second half of the AFC Champions League's Round of 16 commenced with four Tuesday contests.

At Seoul, South Korea:

Adilson dos Santos (61'), Yun Il-Lok (70'), and Koh Myong-Jin (90'+5) each delivered a goal as FC Seoul, following last week's series-opening scoreless deadlock in China, overcame an early deficit in game two and defeated visiting Beijing Guoan 3-1 both in the match and on aggregate for the series to advance to the quarterfinal round.

At Tashkent, Uzbekistan:

A 0-0 road stalemate in game two was good enough for Buriram United as the Thai club took their two-match series with FC Bunyodkor 2-1 on aggregate.

At Buraidah, Saudi Arabia:
Bruno Cesar (25') and Mustafa Al Bassas (38') each delivered a goal as Al-Ahli blanked visiting El Jaish 2-0 in game two and won their two-match series 3-1 on aggregate.

At Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:
Sebastian Tagliabue scored twice (34', 47') as Al-Shabab spanked visiting Al-Gharafa 3-0 in game two and took the series 5-1 on aggregate.

AFC Champions League: Clean Sweep For Road Teams

The AFC Champions League's Round of 16 continued with four games on Wednesday.

At Gosford, Australia:

Muriqui scored the winning goal in the 76th minute as Guangzhou Evergrande defeated the Central Coast Mariners 2-1 on the road in the opening game of their two-match series.

At Jeonju, South Korea:

Masato Kudo (3') and Tatsuya Masushima (74') provided the scoring as Kashiwa Reysol downed hosts Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Dubai, United Arab Emirates:

Farhad Majidi scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 80th minute as Esteghlal defeated Al-Shabab Al-Arabi 4-2 on the road in their series opener.

At Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:

Youssef Msakni scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute as Lekhwiya took game one of their series with Al-Hilal 1-0 on the road.

AFC Champions League

Four games were played on Tuesday as the knockout stage of the AFC Champions League commenced with the Round of 16.

At Buriram, Thailand:

Anawin Jujeen (17') and Ekkachai Sumrei (76') provided the scoring that carried Buriram United to a series-opening 2-1 home win over FC Bunyodkor.  Igor Taran (45'+1) scored to keep the Uzbekistani club in the series.

At Beijing, China:

FC Seoul held hosts Beijing Guoan to a 0-0 series-opening stalemate.

At Doha, Qatar:

Nasser Al-Ahamrani scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute as Al-Shabab took game one of their two-match series with Al-Gharafa 2-1 on the road.

At Al Rayyan, Qatar:

Anderson Martins' equalizer in the 76th minute enabled El Jaish to salvage a 1-1 game-one home draw with Al-Ahli.  Moataz Al-Musa (45'+1) scored for the visiting club from Saudi Arabia.

Group-stage play in the AFC Champions League concluded with eight games contested on Wednesday.

Group A:

At Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:

Nasser Al Shamrani (48') and Bader Al Sulaiteen (81') each scored once as Al-Shabab defeated visiting Al-Jazira 2-1.

At Tabriz, Iran:

Abdulqadir Ilyas scored twice (53', PK-71') as El Jaish defeated Tractor Sazi 4-2 on the road.

FINAL GROUP A STANDINGS:

1. Al-Shabab (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 13)
2. El Jaish (GP: 6; GD: +5; PTS: 11)
3. Al-Jazira (GP: 6; GD: -3; PTS: 5)

Al-Shabab and El Jaish advanced to the knockout stage.



Group B:

At Doha, Qatar:

Luiz Ceara (12') and Khalid Muftah (66') provided the scoring that lifted Lekhwiya to a 2-0 home win over Al-Ettifaq and the Group B title and a berth in the knockout stage.

At Tashkent, Uzbekistan:

Ciel scored the winning goal in the 64th minute as Al-Shabab Al-Arabi knocked off hosts Pakhtakor Tashkent 2-1 and clinched a berth in the knockout stage.

1. Lekhwiya (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 11)

Ekkachi Sumrei (56') and Theeraton Bunmathan (75') each scored a goal as Buriram United clinched a berth in the knockout state with a 2-2 road draw against FC Seoul.

At Sendai, Japan:

Hamdi Salihi scored the winning goal in the 62nd as Jiangsu Sainty defeated Vegalta Sendai 2-1 on the road.  Despite the win (which knocked the Japanese club out of the tournament), the Chinese club was still eliminated due to inferior overall goal differential vis a viv Buriram United.

2. Buriram United (GP: 6; GD: 0; PTS: 7)
3. Jiangsu Sainty (GP: 6; GD: -5; PTS: 7)

Group F:

At Guangzhou, China:

With a 0-0 road draw against Guangzhou Evergrande, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors locked up a berth in the knockout stage.

At Nonthaburi, Thailand:

Daisuke Nasu scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute as the Urawa Red Diamonds defeated Muangthong United 1-0 on the road.  Despite the win, due to fact that they had a draw and a defeat against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, the Reds were still eliminated from the tournament.

AFC Champions League: Al-Ain't Gonna Make It To The Knockout Stage; Ditto Pohang Steelers; Beijing Guoan, Central Coast Mariners Advance To Round Of 16

The final week of group-stage play in the AFC Champions League commenced on Tuesday with eight games.

Group C:

At Fuladshahr, Iran:

Amin Jahan Alian (11'), Mohammad Gholami (48'), and Mohammad Khalabari (55') each scored a goal as Sepahan defeated visiting Al-Gharafa 3-1.

At Buraiduh, Saudi Arabia:

Waleed Bakshwin (PK-7') and Taisir Al-Jassim (77') each scored a goal as Al-Ahli, who already locked up a berth in the knockout stage, salvaged a 1-1 home draw with Al-Nasr.  Leo Lima (PK-23') and Rashid Malullah (54') each scored a goal for the visitors, who picked up their first and last point of this tournament.

FINAL GROUP C STANDINGS:

1. Al-Ahli (GP: 6; GD: +8; PTS: 14)
2. Al-Gharafa (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 10)

Javad Nekounam scored the only goal of the match with his successul penalty kick in the 80th minute as Esteghlal locked up top spot in Group F after having defeated Al-Ain 1-0 on the road, eliminating the club from the Emirates from the tournament.

At  Al Rayyan, Qatar:

Nawaf Al Abed (78') and Saad Al-Harthi (83') each delivered a second-half goal five minutes apart as Al-Hilal, now bound for the knockout stage, defeated Al-Rayyan 2-0 on the road.

FINAL GROUP D STANDINGS:

1. Esteghlal FC (GP: 6; GD: +6; PTS: 13)
2. Al-Hilal (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 12)

By holding hosts Sanfrecce Hiroshima to a 0-0 stalemate, along with the inability on the part of Pohang Steeler to defeat FC Bunyodkor at home, Beijing Guoan advanced to the knockout stage.

At Pohang, South Korea:

Oleksankr Pyschur scored in the 79th minute as FC Bunyodkor gained a 1-1 road draw with the Pohang Steelers.  Park Sung-Ho scored in second-half stoppage time (90'+3) for the hosts, who were still eliminated from the tournament.

FINAL GROUP G STANDINGS:

1. FC Bunyodkor (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 10)
2. Beijing Guoan (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 9)

Despite being dominated 3-0 at home by Kashiwa Reysol, the Central Coast Mariner will join their Japanese guests in the knockout stage.  Masato Kudo (59'), Cleo (79'), and Leandro Domingues (85') each tallied once for the visitors.

At Guiyang, China:

Lee Jong-Min (35') and Kwon Ghang-Hoon (55') each delivered a goal as Suwon Samsung Bluewings prevented Guizhou Renhe from advancing to the knockout stage by holding the hosts to a 2-2 stalemate.  Sun Jihai (45') and Zhang Chenglin (86') each scored once for the Chinese Club.

Eight games were played in the AFC Champions League's group stage on Wednesday.

At Al Rayyan, Qatar:

With Wagner Ribeiro providing all the scoring (3', 82', 90'+3), El Jaish clinched a berth in the knockout stage with a 3-0 home domination of Al-Shabab.

At Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates:

Al-Jazira blanked visiting Tractor Sazi 2-0, but were still eliminated from the tournament due to El Jarish's home win over Al-Shabab.  Ricardo Oliveira (7') and Subait Khater (90'+2) each tallied once for the hosts.

Eight games were played on Tuesday as the next-to-last match day of AFC Champions League group-stage action commenced.

At Doha, Qatar:

Amad Al Hosni (31') and Jairo Palomino (68') each delivered a goal as Al-Ahli gained a 2-2 road draw with Al-Gharafa.  Alex Raphael Meschini (24') and Djibril Cisse (PK-54') each delivered a goal for the hosts who will join their guests from Saudi Arabia in the knockout stage.

At Dubai, United Arab Emirates:

Mohammad Gholami scored the winning goal in the 79th minute as Sepahan defeated Al-Nasr 2-1 on the road.

Martins Adriano's equalizer in the 33rd minute lifted El Jaish to a 1-1 road draw with Al-Jazira.  Sultan Bargash scored at 25 minutes for the hosts.

At Tabriz, Iran:
