The final week of group-stage play in the UEFA Champions League commenced on Tuesday with eight games, two of them being contested in Group A.
At Manchester, England:
Phil Jones (that's him here) scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute as Manchester United locked up the Group A crown with a 1-0 home win over Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian club was consigned to the knockout stage of the Europa League as their defeat was combined with Bayer Leverkusen's road win over Real Sociedad.
At San Sebastian, Spain:
Omer Toprak (that's him celebrating) scored the game's lone goal in the 49th minute as Bayer Leverkusen, by beating already-elminated Real Sociedad 1-0 on the road, jumped Shakhtar Donetsk and locked up a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage.

2. Bayer Leverkusen (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 10)

Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage while Shaktar Donetsk qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League.

At Leverkusen, Germany:
Five different goal scorers----beginning with Antonio Valencia in the 22nd minute----each tallied once as Manchester United locked up a berth in the knockout stage by demolishing Bayer Leverkusen 5-9 on the road. At Donetsk, Ukraine:
Douglas Costra scored twice (68', 87') as Shakhtar Donetsk climbed into second place in Group A after their 4-0 home demolition of Real Sociedad as the Spanish club were eliminated from European competition. Here, we see a linesman's flag go up as Shakhtar's Luiz Adriano attempts a shot.

Real Sociedad battled visiting ten-man Manchester United to a 0-0 deadlock. The hosts are on the cusp of elimination from contention for a Champions League knockout-stage berth while the Red Devils, with two games remaining, remained atop Group A. Stefan Kiessling scored twice (22', 72', that's him beating visiting goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov on one of his tallies) as Bayer Leverkusen blasted visiting Skakhtar Donetsk 4-0.
At Manchester, England:
Inigo Martinez's own goal in the second minute proved costly for Real Sociedad as Manchester United defeated the visiting club from Spain's Basque Country 1-0. Here are some happy Red Devils celebrating after the visitors' own goal.
