CAF Champions League: It's USM Alger vs. TP Mazembe For The Marbles

The semifinal round of the CAF Champions League concluded weekend before last.

At Algiers on Saturday, October 3:

A 0-0 home stalemate in game two was good enough for USM Alger as they won their two-game series with Al-Hilal of Sudan 2-1 on aggregate.

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday, October 4:

Mbwana Samatta scored twice (52', 69') as TP Mazembe overcame their game-one road defeat with a 3-0 game-two home domination of Al-Merrikh and won their series 4-2 on aggregate.

The two-game CAF Champions League final between USM Alger and TP Mazembe is slated to open at Algiers on October 31 with the return match to take place at Lubumbashi on November 8.  The winner would take part in December's FIFA Club World Cup, slated to take place in Japan.

CAF Champions League: USM Alger Grab Semi Series Opener On Road

At Omdurman, Sudan:

Mohamed Aoudia (13') and Karim Baiteche (62') each scored a goal on Sunday as USM Alger took the opening match of their CAF Champions League semifinal series with Al-Hilal 2-1 on the road.

CAF Champions League: Al-Merreikh Take Semi Opener Against TP Mazembe

At Omdurman, Sudan:

Francis Coffie (41') and Bakri Al Madina (80') each scored a goal as Al-Merreikh defeated visiting TP Mazembe 2-1 on Saturday in the opening contest of a two-match series as the CAF Champions League's semifinal round commenced.  Thomas Ulimwengu kept the Congolese club alive with his goal in the 77th minute.

CAF Champions League: TP Mazembe, Al-Hilal Advance To Semifinals

Two games, both in Group A, were contested on Saturday as group-stage play in the CAF Champions League concluded.

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

Mbwana Samatta produced a hat trick (12', 53', 90') as TP Mazembe destroyed visiting Moghreb Tetouan 5-0 and clinched a berth in the semifinal round (and won Group A in the process).

At Alexandria, Egypt:

Nasr Eldin El Shigail's equalizer in the 73rd minute carried Al-Hilal to a 1-1 road draw with Smouha SC and a berth in the knockout stage.

Final Group A Standings:

1.  TP Mazembe (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 11)
2.  Al-Hilal (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 9)
3.  Moghreb Tetouan (GP: 6; GD: -4; PTS: 8)
4.  Smouha SC (GP: 6; GD: -5; PTS: 4)

TP Mazembe and Al-Hilal advanced to the semifinal round.

The opening contests are set for September 25-27, with the return matches to be played October 2-4, with the winners advancing to the two-game final, set to start October 30-November 1.

CAF Champions League

Two games were played on Sunday in Group A of the CAF Champions League.

At Omdurman, Sudan:

Al Hilal, thanks to Athar Eltahir's goal in the seventh minute,  defeated visiting TP Mazembe 1-0.

At Tetouan, Morocco:

Jesus Rodriguez Tato (13') and Abdeladim Khadrouf (PK-75') delivered the scoring as Moghreb Tetouan defeated visiting Smouha 2-1, as the Egyptian club was eliminated from the tournament.

Group A Standings:

1.    Moghreb Tetouan (GP: 5; GD: +1; PTS: 8)
2.    Al-Hilal (GP: 5; GD: +2; PTS: 8)
3.    TP Mazembe (GP: 5; GD: +2; PTS: 8)
4. z-Smouha SC (GP: 5; GD: -5; PTS: 3)'

NOTES: With Moghreb Tetouan, Al-Hilal, and TP Mazembe all level on points (8), the Moroccan club is technically in first place since they've gathered four points from games played against Al-Hilal and TP Mazembe.  The Sudanese club has three points from games played against the Moroccan and Congolese clubs.  TP Mazembe has two points in games against Al-Hilal and Moghreb Tetouan.



CAF Champions League: Knockout-Stage-Bound Al-Merrikh Gain Win On Road

At El Eulma, Algeria:

In action from Group B, Bakri Al-Madina scored twice (71', PK-90') as Al-Merrikh defeated MC El Eulma 3-2 on the road in the lone Saturday CAF Champions League contest.  The Sudanese club had already locked up a berth in the semifinal round.

CAF Champions League: USM Alger Dominate ES Setif, Advance To Semifinals; Defending Champs Eliminated

At Algiers:

In the lone Friday CAF Champions League contest, Youcef Belaili (33'), Kaddour Beldjilali (36'), and Mohamed Aoudia (74') each scored a goal as USM Alger dominated visiting ES Setif 3-0 in a Group B match to  not only lock up a berth in the semifinal round, but clinch top spot in Group B and, in the process, dethroned the defending African club champions.

CAF Champions League: Home Win For Al-Merrikh

At Omdurman, Sudan:

In the lone Sunday CAF Champions League contest, Ala'a Eldin Yousif (41') and Augustine Okrah (90'+2) each scored a goal as Al-Merrikh blanked visiting ES Setif 2-0 in a Group B match.  The victory by the Sudanese club eliminated MC El Eulma from the tournament.

In the lone Saturday CAF Champions League contest, Roger Assale's goal in the 53rd minute provided all the scoring as TP Mazembe defeted visiting Smouha 1-0 in a Group A contest.

CAF Champions League: Road Wins For Moghreb Tetouan and USM Alger

Two games were played on Friday as the second half of CAF Champions League group-stage action commenced.

GROUP A:

At Omdurman, Sudan:

Ahmed Jahouh successfully converted his penalty kick in the 24th minute to carry Moghreb Tetouan to a 1-0 road victory over Al-Hilal Omdurman.



GROUP B:

At El Eulma, Algeria:

Mohamed Rabie Meftah scored the only goal of the match in the 49th minute as USM Alger knocked off MC El Eulma 1-0 on the road.

CAF Champions League: Late Equalizer Gains Road Draw For Al-Hilal As Group-Stage Play Reaches Midway Point

At Tetouan, Morocco:

Andrezinho delivered the game-tying goal in the 77th minute to lift Al-Hilal Omdurman to a 1-1 Group A Sunday road draw with Moghreb Tetouan as group-stage play in the CAF Champions League reached the midway point.  Abdeladim Khadrouf scored for the hosts in the 70th minute.

At Setif, Algeria:

In the lone Saturday CAF Champions League contest, Solomon Jabason's equalizer in the 22nd minute carried Al-Merrikh to a 1-1 Group B road draw with El Setif.  Abdelmalek Ziaya scored for the hosts in the 16th minute.

CAF Champions League: Friday Wins For TP Mazembe and USM Alger

Group-stay play in the CAF Champions League continued on Friday with two games.

GROUP A:

At Alexandria, Egypt:

Rainford Kalaba (40') and Daniel Adjei (82') each scored once as TP Mazembe blanked Smouha Sporting Club 2-0 on the road.



GROUP B:

At Algiers:

Mohamed Seguer scored the winning goal in the 22nd minute as USM Alger held off visiting MC El Eulma 2-1 in an all-Algerian battle.

Two games were played in the CAF Champions League on Sunday, with both matches taking place in Group A.

At Omdurman, Sudan:

Nasr Eldin El Shigail (52') and Nizar Hamid (81') each scored a goal in the second half as Al-Hilal blanked visiting Smouha 2-0.

At Tetouan, Morocco:

Moghreb Tetouan and visiting TP Mazembe battled to a 0-0 stalemate.

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

Al-Hilal of Sudan held hosts TP Mazembe to a 0-0 stalemate.

At Alexandria, Egypt:

Salah Amin (66') and Hermann Kouao (78', 79') delivered the goals as Smouha overcame a two-goal deficit and upended visiting Moghreb Tetouan 3-2.

CAF Champions League

Five games were played on Sunday as the second round of the CAF Champions League concluded.

At Bamako, Mali:

In a match that was transferred from Guinea due to Ebola concerns, Carolus Andriamatsinoro's goal in the 53rd minute proved vital as USM Alger gained a 1-1 game-two road draw with AS Kaloum and won their series 3-2 on aggregate.

At Omdurman, Sudan:

A second 1-0 victory for Al-Hilal Omdurman against SM Sanga Balende carried the Sudanese club to a 2-0 aggregate victory and a group-stage berth.

At Rades, Tunisia:

A game-two 2-1 road win for Al-Merrikh enabled the Sudanese club to eliminate Esperance ST, with the aggregate score at 2-2, on away goals.

At Sfax, Tunisia:

After dropping a 1-0 game-two regulation road decision to CS Sfaxien, thus squaring their series at 1-1 on aggregate, MC El Eulma won the penalty-kick shootout 7-6 and advanced to the group stage.

At Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

A 2-1 game-two home win against Stade Malien enabled TP Mazembe to win their series 4-3 on aggregate.

All clubs that were eliminated on Sunday will play in the CAF Confederation Cup's playoff round.
