Road Draw Keeps Sky Blues Alive For Playoff Berth

At Melbourne, Australia:


Shannon Cole's second-half double (67', 77') enabled Sydney FC to come back from a two-goal deficit and gain a 2-2 Saturday Hyundai A-League road draw with the Melbourne Heart.  Mate Dugandzic (31') and Eli Babalj (36') provided the hosts' tallies.  The Sky Blues, with one game remaining in the regular league season, trail Newcastle for the sixth and final playoff berth due to inferior goal differential (-6 to -2 for the Jets). The Jets and Sky Blues will battle each other in their season finale in Sydney next Saturday.

Sydney Pummeled At Home

At Sydney, Australia:

Eli Babalj (32'), Mate Dugandzic (45'+2), Jason Hoffman (75'), and Alex Terra (84') each delivered a goal on Thursday as the Melbourne Heart picked up their largest Hyundai A-League victory to date, handing Sydney FC their worst-ever home defeat 4-0.

Late Goal Gains Road Draw For Sydney FC

Nick Carle's late equalizer (90') carried Sydney FC to a 1-1 road A-League Saturday draw with the Melbourne Heart.  Maycon Calvalho scored at 85 minutes for the hosts.

Sydney FC Conclude Season With Road Draw

At Melbourne, Australia:

Nick Carle scored twice (PK-35', 88') as Sydney FC concluded their Hyundai A-League season with a 2-2 draw on the road against the Melbourne Heart on Saturday.  Rutger Worm (41') and John Aloisi (62') each tallied once for the newcomers, who also missed the playoffs.

A thoroughly rotten start to the season ended the Sky Blues' hopes of repeating as club champions of Australia but they did play much better in recent weeks.

Adrian Zahara provided the lone goal of the match at 86 minutes on Thursday as the expansion Melbourne Heart knocked off Sydney FC 1-0 on the road, condemning the hosts to the bottom of the A-League standings.
