Latif Blessing (25') and Daniel Salloi (66') each scored once as Sporting Kansas City laid claim to their third Lamar Hunt US Open Cup championship in the last six years (and fourth overall) by holding off the visiting New York Red Bulls 2-1 on Wednesday.
Sporting KC, by winning this game, qualified for the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League.

SKC TOP PHILLY IN PK SHOOTOUT TO CAPTURE US OPEN CUP CROWN AND BERTH IN '16-'17 CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
At Chester, Pennsylvania:
After a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes, Benny Feilhaber, Dom Dwyer, Matt Besler, Paulo Nagamura, Graham Zusi, Kevin Ellis, and with the game winner, Jordi Quintilla, all converted their spot kicks as Sporting Kansas City won their third US Open Cup championship on Wednesday night winning the penalty-kick shootout 7-6 over the home-standing Philadelphia Union. Sporting won their third major trophy in four years (the Open Cup title in 2012 and 2015 and the MLS Cup in 2013; as the Kansas City Wizards, they also won the Open Cup in 2002) and qualified for the group stage of the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League.
The Union came up short in the Open Cup final for the second straight year.

SKC WIN PK THRILLER OVER RSL FOR FIRST MLS CUP TITLE SINCE 2000

After a contest that was deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time, followed by 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Claudio Bieler, Paulo Magamura, Benny Feilhaber, Seth Sinovic, C.J. Sapong, Chance Myers, and, with the game winner, Aurelien Collin (who scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute and was named game Most Valuable Player) all converted their spot kicks as Sporting Kansas City won their first Major League Soccer championship since 2000 by winning the longest penalty-kick shootout in league history, 7-6 in ten rounds over visiting Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Lovel Palmer had a chance to tie the shootout and force an eleventh round, but his shot bounced off the crossbar.

SKC ENDS SOUNDERS THREE-YEAR US OPEN CUP REIGN WITH PK SHOOTOUT WIN

After Kei Kamara converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to put Sporting Kansas City in front 1-0 in Wednesday's final of the US Open Cup tournament, Zach Scott equalized for the visiting Seattle Sounders in the 86th. With the score deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time, followed by thirty scoreless overtime minutes, the issue was decided in the penalty-kick shootout, during which, SKC's Paulo Nagamura converted what turned out to be the winning spot kick as SKC won their first Open Cup triumph since 2004, taking the shootout 3-2. The hosts will take part in the group stage of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League. The Sounders' Eddie Johnson had a chance to keep his club in the shootout but his spot kick sailed high over the net. This marked the first defeat in Open Cup for play for Seattle as an MLS club, hoping to win a record fourth straight title.
