UCL Group E: Liverpool Eliminated Despite Win; Fiorentina Advance
UEFA Champions League group stage play resumed on Tuesday with eight games, including two in Group E.
At Budapest, Hungary:
David Ngog (seen here agonizing at game's end) scored the only goal of the match (4') as Liverpool defeated Debreceni VSC 1-0. However, because of Fiorentina's win over already knockout-stage-bound Lyon, the Reds have been eliminated from the tournament and will have to settle for Europa League knockout stage play.
At Florence, Italy:
Juan Vargas' successful penalty kick at 28 minutes (he's shown here mobbed by teammates) proved to be all the scoring as Fiorentina locked up a berth in the round of 16 with a 1-0 home win over Lyon.
