Copa Libertadores: Boca, Palmeiras Advance To Quarterfinals

The Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores concluded on Thursday with two games.

At Asuncion, Paraguay:

Cristian Pavon (18'), Mauro Zarate (21'), Carlos Tevez (74'), and Edwin Cardona (PK-79') each scored once as Boca Juniors doubled up Club Libertad 4-2 on the road in game two and won their series with the Paraguayan club 6-2 on aggregate.

At Sao Paulo, Brazil:

Despite dropping a 1-0 game-two home decision to Cerro Porteno, Palmeiras still took out their Paraguayan guests 2-1 on aggregate.

CONCACAF League: Tauro, Motagua Advance To Semifinals

The quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF League concluded on Thursday with two games.

At Heredia, Costa Rica (due to security concerns over civil unrest in Nicaragua):

Edwin Aguillar got the scoring started in the ninth minute as four scorers each tallied once in Tauro FC's 4-0 game-two road demolition of Walter Ferretti as the Panamanian club won their series quite handily, 7-1 on aggregate.

At Kingston, Jamaica:


Roman Castillo scored twice (31', 90'+2) as Motagua blanked Portmore United 2-0 on the road in game two and ousted the Jamaican club 5-2 on aggregate.

Copa Libertadores: River Plate, Colo-Colo, Cruzeiro Advance To Quaterfinals (The Last Two Clubs Despite Dropping Game Two Decisions)

Blas Perez scored twice (51', 62') on Tuesday as Arabe Unido defeated visiting FAS 3-1 in game two and won their CONCACAF League quarterfinal series with the Salvadorian club 4-1 on aggregate.

Copa Libertadores

The Copa Libertadores' Round of 16 resumed on Tuesday with three games.

At Porto Alegre, Brazil:

After taking game two 2-1 in regulation to square the series at 3-3 on aggregate, and with overtime dispensed with, Maicon, Everton Sousa Soares, Jael Ferreira Vieira, Alisson, and Andre Filipe Ribeiro de Souza all converted their spot kicks as Gremio won the penalty-kick shootout 5-3 against visiting Estudiantes.

At Medellin, Colombia:

Omar Duarte's goal in the 11th minute carried Atletico Nacional to a 1-0 game-two home win over Atletico Tucuman and a 2-1 aggregate victory to advance to the quarterfinals.

At Sao Paulo, Brazil:

A 0-0 road stalemate in game two with Santos was more than good enough for Independiente as the Argentinian club won their series 3-0 on aggregate*.

*Independiente was awarded a series-opening 3-0 victory over Santos after the Brazilian club fielded an ineligible player.

UEFA Champions League: Ajax, AEK, Young Boys Advance To Group Stage

The playoff round for UEFA Champions League group-stage berths resumed with three games on Tuesday.

El Habib Bouguelmouna's game-winning goal in the 27th minute carried ES Setif to a 2-1 road win over MC Alger and a berth in the quarterfinal round.
