African Nations Cup: Elephants Blank Angola To Win Group B; Falcons of Jediane Knock Off Burkina Faso To Snatch Berth In Quarterfinals

Monday marked the conclusion of action from Group B in the African Nations Cup with both games taking place in Equatorial Guinea.

At Bata:

Mudather El Tahir scored twice (33', 80') as Sudan held off Burkina Faso 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

At Malabo:

Emmanuel Eboue (33') and Wifred Bony (65') each scored a goal as Ivory Coast won Group B with a 2-0 blanking of Angola.  The defeat, combined with Sudan's win over Burkina Faso, knocked the Sable Antelopes from the tournament (thanks to inferior goal difference).

FINAL GROUP B STANDINGS:

1. Ivory Coast (GP: 3; GD: +5; PTS: 9)
2. Sudan (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)
3. Angola (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 4)
4. Burkina Faso (GP: 3; GD: -4; PTS: 0)

Ivory Coast and Sudan (due to better goal differential vis a viv Angola) advanced to the quarterfinal round.
