Copa Libertadores: Arsenal and El Nacional Get Opening Round Off To Winning Starts

The opening games of two two-game series in the opening round of the Copa Libertadores were contested on Tuesday.

At Avellaneda, Argentina:

Jorge Cordoba (22'), Emilio Zelaya (36'), Claudio Mosca (88') each delivered a goal as Arsenal de Sarandi got their two-game series off to a roaring start with a 3-0 opening-match home domination of Sport Huancayo (Peru).  The winner of this series will be placed in Group 4 with Boca Juniors (Argentina), Zamora FC (Venezuela), and Fluminense (Brazil).

At Quito, Ecuador:

Juan Luis Anangono scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute as El Nacional defeated visiting Club Libertad of Paraguay 1-0 in their series opener.  The winning club will be placed in Group Five with Club Nacional (Uruguay), Alianza Lima (Peru), and Vasco da Gama (Brazil).
