Giorgio Chinaglia, Former Lazio, Cosmos Striker, R. I. P.

Giorgio Chinaglia, who formerly starred for Lazio in Italy, then starred for the New York Cosmos in the original North American Soccer League, passed away on Sunday at his Florida home after suffering a heart attack at age 65.


Mr. Chinaglia was noted in both Italy and the United States for his goal scoring prowess.


Giorgio scored 98 goals in 209 games for the Rome-based Young Eagles before joining the Cosmos in 1976 (where he ended up being teammate with Pele and Franz Beckenbauer).  He scored 193 goals in 213 games for the Cosmos.


Girogio also played for the Italian national team, having won 14 caps.
