Stephen Appiah, who captained Ghana to their second round appearance at the recent FIFA World Up, scored in the 26th minute to lead home-standing Fenerbache SK to a 4-0 fistbeating of B36 of Torshavn in the opening game of their two-game set at Istanbul. Details here.

Maris Verpakovskis made a triumphant return to the city of his birth, Leipaja, Latvia, by scoring a goal in the 32nd minute to complete a Dynamo Kiev onslaught of three goals in 12 minutes during the first half as the Ukranian side thumped FHK Leipajas Metalurgs, 4-1, in the second qualifying round opener for both teams.
