The opening match of the two-game set between the New England Revolution and the New York Red Bulls ended a 0-0 stalemate.
At Frisco, Texas:
An unassisted goal from Clarence Goodson at 24 minutes lilfted FC Dallas to a 1-0 home win over the Houston Dynamo in the series opener for both clubs.
At Kansas City:
Davy Arnaud scored the lone goal (34') of a series-opening match that saw the Kansas City Wizards defeat visiting Chivas USA 1-0.
