Mauro Boselli Hat Trick Helps Estudiantes Start Title Defense In Style

Four game were played in Copa Libertadores group stage action on Thursday.

Group One:

At Asuncion, Paraguay:

Cesar Ramirez equalized at 56 minutes to help Cerro Porteno salvage a 1-1 home draw with Indepiente Medillin. Felipe Pardo scored at 17 minutes for the Colombian visitors.

Group Three:

At Quilmes, Argentina:

Mauro Boselli's hat trick (PK-6', 59', 71') helped guide Estudiantes to a 5-1 fistbeating of Peru's Juan Aurich in a very successful start to their Copa Libertadores title defense.

At Santa Cruz, Bolivia:

Carlos Orejuela (52') and Rodolfo Espinoza (76') provided the scoring that carried Universitario de Deportes (Peru) to a 2-1 road win over Blooming.

Mario Ignacio Requeiro Pintos doubled (46', 64') and Angel Morales' successful penalty kick at 82 minutes provided the winning margin as Club Nacional de Football defeated visiting Club Deportivo Cuenca from Ecuador 3-2.

Note: The first place finishers in all eight groups and the six second-place teams with the best records would advance to the knockout stage, beginning with the Round of 16, where they would be joined by Mexican clubs Chivas of Guadalajara and San Luis. Those two clubs were guaranteed places in the knockout stage after they had withdrawn from last year's tournament because of concerns over Swine Flu.
