The quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup commenced with two games on Saturday.
In the opener, after a 1-1 deadlock through 120 minutes, Carlo Costly, Victor Bernardez, Wilson Pilacios, and Jerry Bengston (who scored at 49 minutes in regulation time) all converted their penalty kicks as Honduras won the shootout 4-2 over Costa Rica to advance to the semifinal round.
In the nightcap, Javier Hernandez scored the winning goal in the 66th minute as Mexico came from behind to topple Guatemala 2-1.
Mexico and Honduras will face each other in a semifinal match to be played at Houston's Reliant Stadium this coming Wednesday.
