UEFA Champions League, Group C: Citizens, Legend Grab Wednesday Wins

Two games in Group C of the UEFA Champions League were contested on Wednesday.


At Manchester, England:


Ilkey Gundogan scored the game winner in the 65th minute as Manchester City downed visiting FC Porto 3-1.


At Piraeus, Greece:


Koka scored at the death (90'+1) to lift Olympiacos to a 1-0 home victory over Marseille.

2. Olympiacos (GP: 1; GD: +1; PTS: 3)

3. Marseille (GP: 1; GD: -1; PTS: 0)

UCL Group C: Galacticos And Rossoneri In Knockout Stage


Group C play in the UEFA Champions League concluded Tuesday.

At Zurich, Switerland:

Ronaldinho equalizer (PK-64') enabled AC Milan to seal a berth in the round of 16 with their 1-1 road deadlock with FC Zurich, who had a win and a draw again the Rossoneri, but no success otherwise, as the Swiss club's European campaign ended. That's Rugged Ronnie, celebrating with Alexandre Pato.

At Marsei
lle, France:

Cristiano Ronaldo doubled (5', 80') as Real Madrid secured safe passage top the knockout stage with a 3-1 road win over Marseille, relegating the French club into the Europa League.

2. AC Milan GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 9)

Real Madrid and AC Milan advanced to the knockout stage of the Champions League while Marseille will play in the knockout stage of the Europa League. FC Zurich's European campaign ended Tuesday.

UCL Group C: Galacticos Knock Zurich Out Of European Competition; Marseille And Rossoneri Draw In Milan


Group C action in the UEFA Champions League resumed on Wednesday.

At Madrid:

Real Madrid moved to the top of Group C with a 1-0 home win over FC Zurich, thanks to Gonzalo Higuain 21st-minute goal (he's seen here celebrating). The loss eliminated th
e Swiss champions from European competition.

At Milan, Italy:

Lucho Gonzalez' equalizer at 16 minutes canceled out Marco Borriello's goal at 10 minutes (he's seen here celebrating), enabling Marseille to stay in contention for a Champions League knockout stage berth with a 1-1 road draw with AC Milan.

UCL Group C: Galacticos and Rossoneri Draw In Milan; Maseille Wallop Zurich


Here's a rundown of the Tuesday Group C contests in the UEFA Champions League.

At Milan
, Italy:

AC Milan, thanks to Ronaldinho's successful penalty kick at 35 minutes, salvaged a 1-1 home deadlock with Real Madrid, whose Karim Benzema is pictured here celebrating after he scored at 29 minutes.

At Marseille, France:


Marseille remained very much in contention in Group C after they busted a game that was stalemated 1-1 at halftime with five second-half goals, and delivered a frontier-styled 6-1 fistbeating to visiting FC Zurich. Fabrice Abriel (11'), Mamadou Niang (51', he's seen here celebrating with teammates), Hilton (80'), Benoit Cheyrou (87'), and Brandou (90') eached scored once for the hosts.

UCL Group C: Rossoneri Top Galacticos In Madrid; Marseille Top Zurich On Road

Wednesday play in Group C in the UEFA Champions League's group stage.

At Madrid:

Alexandre Pato's double (66', 88', he's seen here saluting the Rossoneri fans who trekked to the Spanish capital) along with Andrea Pirlo's score at 62 minutes lifted AC Milan to a 3-2 road win over Real Madrid.

At Zurich, Switzerland:

Gabriel Heinze scored the game's lone goal at 69 minutes (here he is being mobbed by happy teammates) as M
arseille defeated FC Zurich 1-0 on the road.

UCL Group C: Zurich Stun Rossoneri In Milan; Easy Win For Galaticos

Wednesday play in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

At Milan, Italy:

Hannu Tihinen's goal at 10 minutes proved to be all the scoring as FC Zurich stunned AC Milan 1-0 on the road. Here's ol' Hannu celebrating the game winner.

At Madrid:

Cristiano Ronaldo's double (58', 64') and Kaka's penalty kick (61') broke open a game that was scoreless at halftime as Real Madrid overpowered Marseille 3-0 at home. The dejected figure in this snapshot is Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda as the ex-Manchester United star celebrates one of his tallies.

Group C: Galacticos Too Much For Zurich; Filippo Inzaghi Shoots Down Marseille

Tuesday marked the launching of Group C play in the UEFA Champions League.

At Zurich, Switzerland:

Cristiano Ronal
