World Football Challenge: Citizens Win PK Shootout Thriller At HDC

At Carson, California:


In the lone Sunday World Football Challenge contest, Mario Balotelli's successful penalty kick at 20 minutes put Manchester City up 1-0, only to see Mike Magee equalize at 53 minutes for the Los Angeles Galaxy.  With the score deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time, and with no overtime periods, the match went to the penalty-kick shootout.


James Milner, Vladimir Weiss, Denis Suarez, Aleksandr Kolarov, Nigel de Jong, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Joe Hart all made their spot kicks as the Citizens won the shootout 7-6 after nine rounds.

World Football Challenge: Man U, Galacticos, Lions Pick Up Wins

Three games were played on Saturday as the World Football Challenge continued.


At Chicago:


Wayne Rooney (66'), Rafael Pereira da Silva (75'), and Nani (82') each scored a second-half goal as Manchester United came from behind to upend the Chicago Fire 3-1.


At Toronto:


Yannick Dialo scored twice in the first half (13', 36') as Sporting CP, in their only WFC contest, held off Juventus 2-1.


At Philadelphia:


Real Madrid topped the Philadelphia Union 2-1. Jose Maria Callejon (2') and Mesut Ozil (11') provided the early scoring for Los Galacticos.

World Football Challenge: Cristiano Ronaldo Hat Trick Sinks Goats

At San Diego:


Cristiano Ronaldo's hat trick (73', PK-76', 82') provided all the scoring as Real Madrid broke open a scoreless stalemate to defeat Chivas de Guadalajara 3-0 in Wednesday action from the World Football Challenge.

At Los Angeles:


Real Madrid, with Jose Maria Callejon (31'), Joselu (40'), Cristiano Ronaldo (53'), and Karim Benzema (58') each tallying once, dominated the Los Angeles Galaxy 4-1.

In the opening contest of the World Football Challenge on Wednesday, Federico Macheda scored twice (54', 61') as Manchester United dominated the New England Revolution 4-1 before 51,523 fans at Gillette Stadium.
