UEFA Champions League, Group C: Zenit Top Rossoneri To Reach Europa League Knockout Rounds, End Anderlecht's European Campaign

Two games were played on Tuesday as Group C action in the UEFA Champions League came to a close.

At Malaga, Spain:

Sergio Duda scored twice (45', 61', that's him battling Anderlecht's Guillaume Gillet for the ball) as knockout-stage-bound Malaga gained a 2-2 home draw with RSC Anderlecht. Milan Jovanovic (50') and Dieumerci Mbokani (89') each scored once for the visiting Belgian club, now eliminated from European competition. 

At Milan, Italy:

Danny scored the only goal of the match in the 35th minute as Zenit Saint Petersburg locked up a Europa League knockout-stage berth with their 1-0 road win over Champions League Round-of-16-bound AC Milan.  That's the Rossoneri's Cristian Zapata (left) battling Zenit's Hulk for the ball.

FINAL GROUP C STANDINGS:

1. Malaga (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 12)
2. AC Milan (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 8)
3. Zenit Saint Petersburg (GP: 6; GD: -3; PTS: 7)
4. RSC Anderlecht (GP: 6; GD: -5; PTS: 5)

Malaga and AC Milan advanced to the Champions League knockout stage while Zenit Saint Petersburg qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Malaga, Rossoneri Advance To Knockout Stage

Two games were played in Group C of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

At Saint Petersburg, Russia:


Diego Buonanotte (8') and Sebastian Seba Fernandez (9') each scored a goal early in the first half as Malaga gained a 2-2 road draw with Zenit Saint Petersburg, clinching a Champions League knockout-stage berth (and Group C, in fact) for the Spanish club.  Danny (49') and Viktor Fayzulin (87') each tallied once for the hosts.  Here, we see the victorious Anchovies celebrating their Group-clinching win.

At Brussels, Belgium:




Stephan El Shaarawy (47'), Philippe Mexes (71'), and Alexandre Pato (90'+1) each delivered a goal in the second half as AC Milan, even with their struggles in Serie A, still locked up a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage with a 3-1 road win over RSC Anderlecht.  Shown here is Anderlecht's Massimo Bruno battling the Rossneri's Mario Yepes for the ball.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Malaga Advance To Knockout Stage; Home Win For Anderlecht

Two Tuesday contests took place in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

At Brussels, Belgium:

Dieumerci Mbokani (that's him celebrating) scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute as RSC Anderlecht defeated visiting Zenit Saint Petersburg 1-0.

At Milan, Italy:



Eliseu scored in the 40th minute as Malaga clinched a berth in the knockout stage with their 1-1 road draw with AC Milan.  Alexandre Pato (that's him battling the Anchovies' Ignacio Camacho for the ball) kept the Rossoneri in sole possession of second place in Group B with his equalizer in the 73rd minute.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Home Win For Zenit; Malaga Still Perfect After Blanking Rossoneri

Wednesday saw two games played in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

At Saint Petersburg, Russia:
Hulk Shirokov Zenit

Aleksandar Kerzhakov's penalty kick in the 72nd minute carried Zenit Saint Petersburg to a 1-0 home win over RSC Anderlecht.  Here are Zenit's Hulk (left) and Roman Shirokov in action.

At Malaga, Spain:
Malaga's Manuel Iturra and Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy (Reuters)

Juaquin Sanchez scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute as Malaga remained unbeaten and untied following their 1-0 home victory over AC Milan.  Here are the Rossoneri's Stephan El Shaarawy battling Malaga's Manuel Iturra for the ball.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Rossoneri Win Wild One In St. Petersburg (Russia, NOT Florida); Malaga Dominate Anderlecht On Road

Two contests in Group C of the UEFA Champions League took place on Wednesday.

At Saint Petersburg, Russia:

Milan celebrate their opening goal against Zenit

Tomas Hubocan's own goal in the 75th minute enabled AC Milan, who had earlier blown a two-goal lead, to defeat Zenit Saint Petersburg 3-2 on the road.  Here, we see the Rossoneri's Urby Emmanuelson celebrating his 13th-minute tally with happy teammates.

At Anderlecht (Brussels), Belgium:

Malaga's Eliseu celebrates against Anderlecht (Reuters)

Eliseu Pereira dos Santos (that's him here) scored twice (45'+1, 64') as Malaga dominated RSC Anderlecht 3-0 on the road.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Goose Eggs At San Siro; Impressive Group-Stage Debut For Malaga

Two games were played on Tuesday as action from Group C within the UEFA Champions League commenced.

At Malaga, Spain:

Francisco Roman (Isco) Alarcon scored twice (3', 76', that's him celebrating after scoring) as Malaga marked their Champions League group-stage debut with an impressive 3-0 home domination of Zenit Saint Petersburg.


At Milan, Italy:

The match between AC Milan, off to a slow start in domestic league play, and visiting RSC Anderlecht ended in a 0-0 draw.  Seen here is the Rossoneri's Kevin Prince Boateng running with the ball with Anderlecht's Guillaume Gillet in hot pursuit.
