League Two Promotion Playoffs: Bantams, Cobblers Advance To Final

The semifinal round of the English League Two promotion playoffs concluded with two games played on Sunday.

At Burton upon Trent, England:

A pair of goals from Nahki Wells (27', 57') and a tally from James Hanson in the 50th minute enabled Bradford City to overturn their 3-2 home defeat from this past Thursday and defeat Burton Albion 3-1 on the road in game two as the Bantams took their two-match series 5-4 on aggregate.

At Cheltenham, England:

Luke Guttridge scored the lone goal of the match in the 28th minute as Northampton Town gained a second 1-0 victory over Cheltenham Town, enabling the Cobblers to take the series 2-0 on aggregate.

Bradford City and Northampton Town will battle it out at London's Wembley Stadium in the May 18 promotion final, with the winner joining Gillingham, Rotherham United, and Port Vale in gaining promotion to League One.

League Two Promotion Playoffs: Brewers, Cobblers Take Semifinal Series Openers

The semifinal round of the promotion playoffs in England's League Two commenced with two games played on Thursday.

At Bradford, England:

Calvin Zola scored twice (22', 28') while Robbie Weir scored the game winner in the 44th minute as Burton Albion took game one of their two-match playoff series with Bradford City 3-2 on the road.

At Northampton, England:

Roy O'Donovan scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute as Northampton Town defeated visiting Cheltenham Town 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

Both series will resume this coming Sunday at Cheltenham and Burton upon Trent, with the winners to face off in the promotion playoff final to take place on May 18 at London's Wembley Stadium, with the winner of that match to join Gillingham, Rotterham United, and Port Vale in gaining promotion to League One, which is the third level of soccer in England.
