South American (CONMEBOL) qualification for next year's World Cup concluded on Tuesday.
At Santiago, Chile:
Alexis Sanchez (35') and Gary Medel (38') delivered the goals as Chile held off visiting Ecuador 2-1 as both teams qualified for next year's tournament.
At Montevideo, Uruguay:
Edinson Cavini scored the winning goal in the 49th minute as Uruguay defeated visiting (and already-qualified) Argentina 3-2. The Sky Blue One, due to inferior goal differential vis a viv Ecuador (zero compared to +4), will have to take part in a two-match playoff next month against Jordan for a place in Brazil.
