CONCACAF Champions League: Club America Crushes Herediano, Overtuns Series-Opening Defeat, Get Shot At Impact In Final

At Mexico City:

In Wednesday's second game of their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series, Dario Benedetto delivered a first-half quadruple (8', 19', 25', 32') as Club America scored five goals in the first half en route to a 6-0 home annihilation of CS Herediano and a two-match 6-3 aggregate victory, easily overturning their series-opening 3-0 road defeat. 

Club America will take on the Montreal Impact in the two-match final with the opening contest to take place on April 22 at Mexico City with the return match to take place at Montreal on April 29.

The winner would advance to December's FIFA Club World Cup. 

CONCACAF Champions League: Despite 4-2 Road Setback, Impact Become First Canadian Club To Reach Final

At Alajuela, Costa Rica:

Despite dropping a game-two 4-2 road setback, the Montreal Impact, with Jack McInerney (42') and Andres Romero (72') delivering the goals, still won their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series with LD Alajuelense on away goals (with the aggregate score at 4-4), becoming the first Canadian club to reach the final of any CONCACAF club championship series.

CONCACAF Champions League: Herediano Advances To Semis, Get Shot At Club America

At Heredia, Costa Rica:

Oscar Granados (47') and Cristian Lagos (64') delivered the goals as Herediano blanked visiting CD Olimpia 2-0 in the second match of their two-game CONCACAF Champions League series and won the two-game set 3-1 on aggregate as the tournament's quarterfinal round concluded.

Matchups for the semifinal round, with the game-one hosts listed first:

Montreal Impact (Canada) vs. LD Alajuelense (Costa Rica), with the series set to start on March 17 in Montreal and the return match on April 9 at Alajuela, Costa Rica.

CS Herediano (Costa Rica) vs. Club America (Mexico), with the series to open sometime between March 17 and 19 at Heredia, Costa Rica and the return match to take place at Mexico City on April 7-9.

CONCACAF Champions League: Alajuelense, Club America Advance To Semis; DC United Ousted Despite Game-Two Home Win Over Costa Rican Club

Two games were played on Wednesday as the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League continued.

At Washington:

Despite a 2-1 game-two road defeat against DC United, LD Alajuelense ousted the tournament's last remaining American club 6-4 on aggregate. Johan Venegas helped the visiting club's cause with his goal in the 71st minute.

At Mexico City:

Jose Daniel Guerrero (43') and Osmar Mares (80') delivered the goals as Club America blanked visiting Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 in game two and finished off the Costa Rican club 5-0 on aggregate.

CONCACAF Champions League: Stoppage-Time Goal Carries Impact Into Semis

At Montreal:
Cameron Porter's goal in the fourth and final scheduled minute of second-half stoppage time on Tuesday enabled the Montreal Impact to gain a 1-1 home draw with Pachuca in the second match of their two-game CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series, and, with the aggregate score at 3-3, advance to the semifinal round on away goals.

CONCACAF Champions League: Easy Series-Opening Road Win For Club America

At San Jose, Costa Rica:

In the lone Wednesday CONCACAF Champions League contest, Pablo Cesar Aguilar (79') and Oribe Peralta (81', 85') delivered the scoring during a six-minute stretch of the game's final 15 minutes as Club America broke open what had been a scoreless stalemate and wound up dominating Deportivo Saprissa 3-0 on the road in the opening match of their two-game quarterfinal-round series.

CONCACAF Champions League: Two-Draw Tuesday As Knockout Stage Commences

Two games were contested on Tuesday as the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League commenced.

At Tegucigalpa, Honduras:

Cristian Lagos' equalizer in the 58th minute lifted CS Herediano to a series-opening 1-1 road deadlock with CD Olimpia.  Javier Estupinan scored in the first minute of first-half stoppage time for the hosts.

At Pachuca, Mexico:

Heriberto Olvera (57') and Ariel Nahuelpan (68') each scored a goal as Pachuca came back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 home draw with the Montreal Impact, both of whose goals came from Dilly Duka (25', 53').

CONCACAF Champions League: Sporting KC Falls To Saprissa In Costa Rica; Eliminated From Tournament; Club Lion Overpowers Isidro Metapan On Final Night Of Group-Stage Play

Group-stage play in the CONCACAF Champions League concluded on Thursday with two games.

Group Two:

At San Jose, Costa Rica:

Heiner Mora (22') and Ariel Rodriguez (46') each scored a goal as Deportivo Saprissa blanked visiting Sporting Kansas City 2-0 and snatched the Group Two title and a berth in the quarterfinal round.

FINAL GROUP TWO STANDINGS:

1. Deportivo Saprissa (GP: 4; GD: +3; PTS: 7)
2. Sporting Kansas City (GP: 4; GD: +3; PTS: 7)
3. Real Esteli  (GP: 4; GD: -6; PTS: 2)

Deportivo Saprissa, by scoring more away goals in head-to-head competition with Sporting Kansas City (1-0), won Group Two and advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Group Seven:

At Leon de los Aldamas, Mexico:

Jose Ruiz (55', 65') and Yamilson Rivera (81', 89') each scored twice in the second half as Club Leon broke open what was at halftime a scoreless stalemate and demolished visiting Isidro Metapan 4-0 in the tournament finale for both clubs.

FINAL GROUP SEVEN STANDINGS:

1. CS Herediano (GP: 4; GD: +7; PTS: 10)
2. Club Leon (GP: 4; GD: +4; PTS: 7)
3. Isidro Metapan (GP: 4; GD: -11; PTS: 0)

CS Herediano advanced to the quarterfinal round.

CONCACAF Champions League

Two games were played in the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday.

Group One:

At San Pedro Sula, Honduras:

Edder Delgado scored twice (3', 64') as Real Espana closed out Champions League play with a 3-2 home win over Pachuca.  The Mexican club had already clinched the Group One title and a quarterfinal-round berth.

FINAL GROUP ONE STANDINGS:

1. Pachuca (GP: 4; GD: +9; PTS: 9)
2. CSD Municipal (GP: 4; GD: -4; PTS: 4)
3. Real Espana (GP: 4; GD: -5; PTS: 4)

Pachuca won Group One and advanced to the quarterfinal round.



Group Three:

Connor Lade's equalizer in the 85th minute lifted the New York Red Bulls, already eliminated from the tournament, to a 1-1 home draw with the knockout-stage-bound Montreal Impact.  Jack McInerney scored in the 71st minute for the guests.

FINAL GROUP THREE STANDINGS:

1. Montreal Impact (GP: 4; GD: +3; PTS: 10)
2. New York Red Bulls (GP: 4; GD: +1; PTS: 5)

CONCACAF Champions League: Olimpia, Club America, Alajuelense Advance to Quarterfinals; Cruz Azul, Comunicaciones, Timbers Eliminated; DC United Blank Tauro FC In Panama

The final week of CONCACAF Champions League group-stage play commenced on Tuesday with four games.

Group Four:

At Panama City, Panama:

Conor Shanosky scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute as DC United, who had already locked up the Group Four title and a berth in the quarterfinal round, defeated Tauro FC 1-0 on the road to clinch a top-four seed in the Round of Eight.

FINAL GROUP FOUR STANDINGS:

1. DC United (GP: 4; GD: +5; PTS: 12)
2. Waterhouse FC (GP: 4; GD: +2; PTS: 6)
3. Tauro FC (GP: 4; GD: -7; PTS: 0)

DC United won Group Four and clinched a berth in the quarterfinal round.



Group Five:

At Tegucigalpa, Honduras:

Antony Lozano scored twice (4', 54') as CD Olimpia defeated the visiting Portland Timbers 3-1 and won Group Five due to head-to-head away goals.

FINAL GROUP FIVE STANDINGS:

1. CD Honduras (GP: 4; GD: +6; PTS: 9)
2. Portland Timbers (GP: 4; GD: +10; PTS: 9)
3. Alpha United (GP: 4; GD: -16; PTS: 0)

CD Honduras, due to the head-to-head road-goal advantage (2-1), won Group Five and advanced to the quarterfinal round.



Group Six:

At Alajuela, Costa Rica:

Armando Alonso's goal in the second minute proved to be enough for Alajuelense as the hosts salvaged a 1-1 home draw with Cruz Azul and won the Group Six title and a berth in the quarterfinal round.

FINAL GROUP SIX STANDINGS:

1. LD Alajuelense (GP: 4; GD: +1; PTS: 6)
2. Cruz Azul (GP: 4; GD: +2; PTS: 5)
3. Chorrillo FC (GP: 4; GD: -3; PTS: 4)

LD Alajuelense won Group Six and advanced to the knockout stage.

Oribe Peralta scored both goals (34', 51') in Club America's 2-0 Group Eight-clinching home victory over CSD Comunicaciones.

CONCACAF Champions League: Alajuelense Hold Chorrillo FC To 1-1 Draw; Comunicaciones Set Up Showdown With America For Group Eight Crown By Blanking Bayamon FC In Puerto Rico

Two games were played in the CONCACAF Champions League's group stage on Thursday.

Group Six:

At Panama City, Panama:

Sergio Moreno's equalizer in the 21st minute enabled Chorrillo FC to salvage a 1-1 home draw with LD Alajuelense.  Kenner Gutierrez scored for the Costa Rican club in the 18th minute.  With the draw, the Panamanian club was eliminated from the tournament while Alajuelense with host Mexico's Cruz Azul on October 21 with the Costa Rican club needing only a draw to advance to the quarterfinal round.

GROUP SIX STANDINGS:

1.    LD Alajuelense (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 5)
2.    Cruz Azul (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 4)

Goals from Jose Contreras (19') and Steven Estrada (OG-86') lifted CSD Comunicaciones to a 2-0 road win over Puerto Rico Bayamon FC.  On October 21, the Guatemalan club will face Club America in Mexico City for the right to win Group Eight and advance to the quarterfinal round.

At Pachuca, Mexico:

Diego de Buen (PK-22'), Ariel Nahuelpan (36'), Diego Buonanotte (47'), and Jurgen Damm (61') each produced a goal as defending champs Pachuca dominated visiting CSD Municipal 4-1 to clinch a berth in the quarterfinal round.

Saer Sene's penalty kick in the 35th minute would have given the Red Bulls a 1-0 lead but it sailed over the crossbar.

Fabian Espindola scored twice (38', 50') as DC United all but locked up a berth in the quarterfinal round with a 2-1 road win over Waterhouse FC, who concluded group-stage play.  DC United would need only one draw from two contests against Panama's Tauro FC to win Group Four and advance to the quarterfinals.
