UEFA Champions League, Group C: Roma, Chelsa To Knockout Stage; Mattress Makers To Europa League

Group C action in the UEFA Champions League concluded with two contests on Tuesday.

At London:

Stefan Savic's own goal in the 75th minute proved costly as Chelsea came back to gain a 1-1 home draw with Atletico Madrid that put the hosts in the Champions League's knockout stage.  Saul Niguez scored for the Mattress Makers in the 56th minute as the Spanish club will play in the Europa League's knockout rounds.

At Rome:

Diego Perotti scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute as AS Roma locked up top spot in Group C with their 1-0 home win over Qarabag as the Azerbaijani club's European adventure ended.  Here are the happy Wolves celebrating their group-clinching victory.

Final Group C Standings:

1. AS Roma (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 11)
2. Chelsea (GP: 6; GD: +8; PTS: 11)
3. Atletico Madrid (GP: 6; GD: +1; PTS: 7)
4. Qarabag (GP: 6; GD: -12; PTS: 2)

AS Roma and Chelsea advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage while Atletico Madrid qualified for the Europa League's Round of 32.

NOTE: AS Roma had a win and a draw in their two games against Chelsea.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Blues Blast Qarabag, Clinch Berth In Round of 16; Mattress Makers Knock Off Roma To Stay Alive

Two games were contested in Group C of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Willian scored twice (36', 85') as Chelsea demolished Qarabag 4-0 on the road to clinch a berth in the knockout stage and knock the Azerbaijani club from European competition.  Here's the Blues' Eden Hazard celebrating after scoring the English club's first goal of the match by converting a penalty kick in the 21st minute.

At Madrid:
Antoine Griezmann (69'; that's him celebrating here) and Kevin Gameiro (85') each scored once in the second half as Atletico Madrid blanked visiting AS Roma 2-0 to stay alive in the tournament and prevent the Italian club from clinching a knockout-stage berth.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Mattress Makers Salvage Home Draw With Qarabag; Roma Too Much For Chelsea

Two UEFA Champions League Group C games were contested  on Tuesday.

At Madrid:



Thomas Partey's equalizer in the 59th minute enabled Atletico Madrid to salvage a 1-1 home draw with ten-man Qarabag.  Michel scored for the Azerbaijani club in the 40th minute.  Here's the Mattress Makers' Saul Niguez (front) controlling the ball.

At Rome:

Stephan el Shaarawy scored twice (1', 36') as AS Roma dominated visiting Chelsea 3-0.  I wonder how Blues coach Antonio Conte (pictured here) felt after the blowout defeat.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Qarabag And Mattress Makers Draw Goose Eggs In Azerbaijan; Roma Gain Road Draw With Chelsea

Two Wednesday were on tap in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Qarabag and visiting Atletico Madrid battled to a 0-0 stalemate.  Here's the Mattress Makers' Angel Correa trying to score past Qarabag goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic (right), without success.

At London:

Edin Dzeko scored twice (64', 70') and Aleksandar Kolarov once (40') as AS Roma erased a two-goal deficit and gained a 3-3 road draw with Chelsea. 

Eden Hazard scored twice (37', 75') and David Luiz once (11') for the Blues.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Road Wins For Roma, Chelsea

Two Wednesday games were played in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Kostas Manolas (7') and Edin Dzeko (15') each delivered a goal in the opening quarter-hour as AS Roma defeated Qarabag 2-1 on the road in the first Champions League group-stage contest ever played on Azerbaijani soil.  Here, we see Qarabag's Badavi Huseynov (left) battling the Italian club's Stephan El Shaarawy for the ball.

At Madrid:

Michy Batshuayi (that's him celebrating with manager Antonio Conte) scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time as Chelsea upended Atletico Madrid 2-1 on the road.

UEFA Champions League, Group C: Chelsea Spoil Qarabag's CL Group-Stage Debut; Wolves And Mattress Makers Produce Goose Eggs In Rome

Tuesday marked the opening of Group C play in the UEFA Champions League with two games.

At London:

Pedro got the ball rolling in the fifth minute as six different players each scored once as Chelsea ruined Qarabag's Champions League's group-stage debut by annihilating the visiting club from Azerbaijan 6-0.  Here's Davide Zappacosta, celebrating with Blues fans after scoring in the 30th minute.

At Rome:
