KEVIN PHILLIPS' OT PK ENDS EAGLES' EIGHT-YEAR ABSENCE FROM PREMIER LEAGUE

39-year-old Kevin Phillips converted a penalty kick in overtime (105'+1) for the game's only score as Crystal Palace defeated Watford 1-0 in Monday's English League Championship promotion playoff final at Wembley Stadium.  The Eagles won promotion back to the English Premier League and will play in the top flight next season for the first time since 2005, joining Cardiff City and Hull City, who had already secured automatic promotion.  At the other end of the League Championship standings, Peterborough United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bristol City were relegated to League One and will be replaced by Doncaster Rovers, AFC Bournemouth, and Yeovil Town.

Wilfred Zaha scored twice (67', 73') as Crystal Palace came from behind to end Wolverhampton's four-match English League Championship winning streak, 2-1 on the road on Tuesday.

Forest Clinch Promotion Playoff Berth

Lewis McGugan (17'), Marcus Tudgay (70'), and David McGoldrick (80') provided the scoring punch that carried Nottingham Forest to a 3-0 road victory over Crystal Palace in Saturday English League Championship action as the league's regular season came to a close, assuring Forest of a berth in the upcoming playoffs for promotion to the Premier League.  Forest will take on Swansea City in a two-game semifinal series while Cardiff City will battle Reading in the other semifinal series.  The winners will face each other in a one-match playoff final at London's Wembley Stadium for the right to join automatically-promoted Queen Park Rangers and Norwich City in the Premiership next season.


On the other end of the table, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Scunthorpe United were all relegated to League One.

Luke Chambers (31'), Marcus Tudgay (46'), and Garath McCleary (85') each delivered a goal as Nottingham Forest dominated visiting Crystal Palace 3-0 in Saturday English League Championship action.

Looks like a last-minute deal reached on Tuesday saved League Championship club Crystal Palace from English soccer's version of Boot Hill.

Deathwatch: Crystal Palace

The end of the line may be at hand for the 105-year old London-based club which barely avoided relegation this past season from England's League Championship.  The Eagles last played in the Premiership in 2005.

FA Cup: Wolves Come Back To Force Replay

At Wolverhampton, England:

Goals from David Jones (37') and Ronald Zubar (84') enabled Wolverhampton to gain a 2-2 home draw Saturday with League Championship club Crystal Palace in fourth round action in the FA Cup. The visiting Eagles got goals courtesy of Alan Lee (3') and Darren Ambrose (49').

The two teams will go at it again in a fourth round replay on February 2 in London on the Eagles' home pitch, with the winner advancing to the round of 16.
