Wednesday marked the end of group stage play in EURO 2008 as Group D play concluded:
At Innsbruck, Austria:
Goals from Roman Pavlyuchenko (24') and Andrei Arshavin (50', he's seen here mobbed by teammates) lifted Russia to a 2-0 win over Sweden to reach the quarterfinal round.
At Salzburg, Austria:
Ruben de la Red (61') and Daniel Guiza (88', pictured here, with---no, NOT George Clooney---but dejected Greek goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis, playing his final international match with his back turned to) provided the scoring that allowed Spain to come back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Greece 2-1. The defending champions were the only team in the group stage field to lose all three of their games.
