US Open Cup: Charleston and Seattle Knock Off MLS Competition; Revs Survive Battle With CP-Baltimore; DCU Douse Fire In OT

The quarterfinal round of the 2008 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament took place on Tuesday:

At New Britain, Connecticut:

The New England Revolution converted all five kicks during the penalty-kick shootout, winning it 5-3 over USL-2 club Crystal Palace Baltimore after the match was deadlocked 1-1 after 120 minutes.

At Boyds, Maryland:

In the only all-MLS match of the quarterfinals, Bryan Namoff's overtime goal at 99 minutes lifted DC United to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Chicago Fire.

At Frisco, Texas:

Goals from Lazo Alvanja (28'), Ian Fuller (43'), and Randi Patterson (90'+1) enabled USL-1 club Charleston Battery to knock off DC Dallas 3-1.

At Seattle:

After 120 scoreless minutes, the Seattle Sounders from USL-1 won an extended penalty kick shootout, outgunning the Kansas City Wizards 6-5 in seven rounds.


The semifinal round will take place on August 12 with:

New England Revolution (MLS) vs. DC United (MLS)
at Washington

Seattle Sounders (USL-1) vs. Charleston Battery (USL-1)
at Charleston, South Carolina

For the final on August 24, it will be a team from Major League Soccer taking on a team from the first division of the United Soccer Leagues.
