FA Cup: Swans, Southampton, Toffees, Cottagers (Clint Dempsey Hat Trick), Potters, Magpies, Stevenage, Spurs, Baggies, Blades Advance; Lactics Knocked Out; Wolves Force Home Replay With Brumbies, Forest Held To Scoreless Home Draw

26 games were played in the third round of England's FA Cup on Saturday.


Clubs playing that are from outside the English Premier League are noted.


At Birmingham, England:


Wolverhampton held home-standing Birmingham City (League Championship) to a 0-0 stalemate to force a January 17 replay back home at Molineux Stadium.


At London:


Dagenham & Redbridge (League Two) battled visiting Millwall (League Championship) to a 0-0 deadlock.  The Lions will host a January 17 replay.


At Barnsley, England:


Danny Graham scored twice (46', 89') as Swansea City doubled up League Championship club Barnsley 4-2 on the road to advance to the fourth round.


At Brighton & Hove, England:


Adrian Cieslewicz equalized in the 62nd minute as Wrexam (Conference National, the fifth level of soccer in England) gained a 1-1 road draw with Brighton & Hove Albion (League Championship) and forced a third-round home replay.  Jake Foster-Caskey scored in the 48th minute for the Seagulls.


At Coventry, England:


Aaron Martin scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute as Southampton defeated Coventry City 2-1 on the road in a battle of League Championship clubs.


At Crawley, England:


Matthew Tubbs scored the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute as Crawley Town (League Two) blanked visiting Bristol City (League Championship) 1-0.


At Derby, England:


Theo Robinson's 9th-minute tally held up as Derby County defeated visiting Crystal Palace 1-0 in a battle of League Championship clubs.


At Doncaster, England:


Jeff Hughes provided both goals (37', PK-70') as Notts County (League One) knocked off Doncaster Rovers (League Championship) 2-0 on the road.


At Liverpool, England:


John Heitinga (5') and Leighton Baines (PK-79') each delivered a goal as Everton defeated visiting Tamworth (Conference National) 2-0.


At Fleetwood, England:


Matt Phillips delivered a second-half hat trick (47', 77', 81') as Blackpool (League Championship) demolished hosts Fleetwood Town (Conference National) 5-1.


At London:


Clint Dempsey's natural hat trick (8', 61', PK-81') helped carry Fulham to a 4-0 home beatdown of League One's Charlton Athletic.


At Gillingham, England:


Jonathan Walters (34'), Cameron Jerome (43'), and Robert Huth (49') each scored a goal as Stoke City spotted Gillingham an early 1-0 lead and ended up overpowering the home-standing League Two club 3-1.


At Kingston upon Hull, England:


Aaron McLean (27'), Tom Cairney (32'), and Cameron Stewart (90') each tallied once as Hull City defeated visiting Ipswich Town 3-1 in a battle of League Championship clubs.


At Macclesfield, England:


With goals from Ivan Klasnic (7') and David Wheater (77'), Bolton gained a 2-2 road draw with Macclesfield Town to force a replay on their home pitch.  Colin Daniel (16') and Arnaud Mendy (68') each tallied once for the League Two Silkmen.


At Middlesbrough, England:


Marvin Emnes scored the lone goal of the match in the 40th minute as Middlesbrough (League Championship) stopped visiting Shrewsbury Town (League Two) 1-0.


At Milton Keynes, England:


Heidar Helguson scored the game-tying goal at 89 minutes as Queens Park Rangers salvaged a 1-1 road draw---and a home replay---with Milton Keynes Dons.  Dean Bowditch scored in the 65th minute for the League One hosts.


At Newcastle upon Tyne, England:


Hatem Ben Arfa (70') and Jonas Gutierrez (90') provided the scoring as Newcastle United came from behind to defeat visiting Blackburn 2-1 in a battle of Premier League clubs.


At Norwich, England:


Grant Holt (6'), Simeon Jackson (12'), Andrew Surman (60'), and Steve Morison (73') each delivered a goal as Norwich City dominated visiting Burnley (League Championship) 4-1.


At Nottingham, England:


A battle of League Championship clubs between Nottingham Forest and visiting Leicester City ended in a 0-0 stalemate, setting up a third-round replay on the Foxes' home pitch.


At Reading, England:


Darius Charles' goal in the 21st minute provided all the scoring as Stevenage (League One) knocked off Reading (League Championship) 1-0 on the road.


At Sheffield, England:


Sheffield United (League One), with Chris Porter (18') and Ched Evans (60') providing the scoring, defeated visiting Salisbury City (Conference South, part of the sixth level of the English soccer pyramid) 3-1.  The Whites were the lowest ranked club left in the tournament.


At Swindon, England:


Paul Benson scored the winning goal in the 76th minute as Swindon Town (League Two) shocked visiting Wigan Athletic 2-1.


At London:


With goals courtesy of Jermain Defoe (24'), Roman Pavlyuchenko (43'), and Giovani Dos Santos (87'), Tottenham Hotspur dominated visiting League Two club Cheltenham Town 3-0.


At Watford, England:


Craig Forsyth scored twice within a span of three minutes (56', 59') as Watford (League One) doubled up visiting Bradford City (League Two) 4-2.


At West Bromwich, England:


Simon Cox provided a hat trick (32', 61', 89') as West Bromwich Albion doubled up visiting Cardiff City (League Championship) 4-2.


At Bristol, England:


Goals courtesy of Marc Albrighton (35'), Gabriel Agbonlahor (64'), and Ciaran Clark (78') carried Aston Villa to a 3-1 road win over Bristol Rovers (League One).
