Group-stage play in the OFC Champions League commenced on Monday with two Group C games played, both at Govind Park, in Ba, Fiji.
In the opener, Dalong Damalip (9'), Joses Nawo (29'), and Don Mansale (81') each scored a goal as Tafea FC (Vanuatu) defeated Hekari United (Papua New Guinea) 3-1.
In the second match, Osea Vakatalesau (19') and Abbu Zahid (90'+1) delivered the goals as Ba FC (Fiji) blanked Magenta (New Caledonia) 2-0.
GROUP C STANDINGS:
1. Tafea FC (GP: 1; GD: +2; PTS: 3)
2. Ba FC (GP: 1; GD: +2; PTS: 3)
3. PRK Hekari United (GP: 1; GD: -2; PTS: 0)
4. AS Magenta (GP: 1; GD: -2; PTS: 0)
This is part of another format change with this tournament. All games in the group stage are being played in Fiji. All Group A and B games are set for Lautoka and the Group C contests in Ba.
12 teams are devided into three four-team groups, each team playing one game against each of the other three teams in its' group. The three group winners and the club with the best second-place record would advance to the semifinal round.
