FIFA Confederations Cup: Germany and Chile Advance to Semifinals as Group-Stage Play Ends; Socceroos Eliminated

Two games were played in Group B in Russia as group-stage play in the Confederations Cup concluded.

At Sochi:

Timo Werner scored twice (66', 81') as Germany locked up a berth in the semifinal round after their 3-1 victory over Cameroon.

At Moscow:

Martin Rodriguez delivered the equalizer in the 67th minute as Chile gained a 1-1 draw with Australia and a berth in the semifinals as well.  James Troisi scored for the now-eliminated Socceroos in the 42nd minute.

Final Group B Standings:

1. Germany (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 7)
2. Chile (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 5)
3. Australia (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 2)
4. Cameroon (GP: 3; GD: -4; PTS: 1)

Germany and Chile advanced to the semifinal round.

Wednesday at Kazan:

Portugal vs. Chile

Thursday at Sochi

Germany vs. Mexico

The losers will face off against each other in the early game next Sunday for third place at Moscow, while the semifinal winners will battle for all the marbles in the late Sunday contest at Saint Petersburg.
