UCL Group D: Blues and Dragons Tune Up

Tuesday marked the conclusion of Group D play in the UEFA Champions League.

At London:

Goals from Marcin Zewlakow (6') and
Nenad Mirosavljevic (87', that's him celebrating with teammates) enabled APOEL FC to gain a 2-2 road draw with Chelsea. The Blues got goals from Michael Essien (19') and Didier Drogba (26'). Even with the draw, the Cypriot club was still eliminated from European competition.

At Madrid:

FC Porto, with goa
ls courtesy of Bruno Alves (2'), Falcao (14', that's him celebrating), and Hulk (76'), spanked Atletico Madrid 3-0 on the road. Even with this setback, Atletico still secured a group of 32 place in the Europa League.

FINAL GROUP D STANDINGS:

1. Chelsea (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 14)
2. FC Porto (GP: 6; GD: +5; PTS: 12)
3. Atletico Madrid (GP: 6; GD: -9; PTS; 3)
4. APOEL FC (GP: 6 GD: -3; PTS: 3)

Chelsea and FC Porto advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage, while Atletico Madrid will play in the Europa League's round of 32. Tuesday marked the end of APOEL's European campaign.

UCL Group D: Blues Claim Group With Win Over Dragons; Atletico And APOEL FC Draw In Cyprus


Group D action from Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.

At Porto, Portugal:

Nicolas Anelka scored the lone goal of the match at 69 minutes (he's shown celebrating with teammate Didier Drogba) as Chelsea locked up the Group D title with a 1-0 road win over FC Porto in a battle of the group's two knockout-stage-bound clubs.

At Nicosia, Cyprus:


In a battle of two teams battling for a UEFA Europa League knockout stage berth, Simao's equalizer at 62 minutes lifted Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 road draw with APOEL FC , keeping them one point ahead of their hosts in the race for third place in Group D. Nenad Mirosavljevic scored at 5 minutes for the Cypriot club. Pictured here are APOEL's Savvas Poursaitides trying to keep pace with Atletico's Jose Manuel Jurado.

UCL Group D: Blues And Dragons Reach Knockout Stage

Two games were played in Group D action in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

At Nicosia, Cy
prus:

Falcao (pictured here) scored the game's only goal at 84 minutes as FC Porto clinched a berth in the Round of 16 with a 1-0 road win over APOE
L FC.

At Madrid:

Didier Drogba's late double (82', 88', he's seen here celebrating) enabled Chelsea to gain a 2-2 road draw with Atletico Madrid and lay claim to a berth in the Knockout Stage of the Champions League.

UCL Group D: Blues And Dragons Post Home Wins



Group D play in the UEFA Champions League resumed Wednesday.

At Porto, Portugal:

Hulk's double (33', PK-48') enabled FC Porto to overcome Alvaro Pereira's own goal (22') to defeat visiting APOEL FC 2-1. Here's the Hulkster (middle) celebrating one of his goals.

At London:

Salomon Kal
ou's double (41', 52') and Frank Lampard's tally (69') helped Chelsea deliver a 4-0 home fistbeating---frontier style, of course---to Atletico Madrid. Here are the happy Blues celebrating their final goal---scored by Atletico's Luis Perea (90'+1).

Group D: Blues Hold Off Dragons; Mattress Makers Held To Scoreless Homw Draw By APOEL

Group D action in the UEFA Champions League began on Tuesday.

At London:

Nicolas Anelka scored the only goal of the
match at 48 minutes (he's presented here celebrating) as Chelsea held off visiting FC Porto 1-0.








At Madrid:

APOEL FC, playing the
ir first-ever contest in the Champions League's group stage held hosts Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 stalemate. Here, we see Atletico's Jose Manuel Jurado riding a tackle from APOEL's Chrysostomos Michail.
