UCL Group H: Legend Top Gunners To Join Arsenal In Sweet Sixteen


Group H action in the UEFA Champions League concluded with two games on Wednesday.

At Athens:

Leonardo provided the game's lone tally (47') as Olympiacos locked up a berth in the Champions League's round of 16 with a 1-0 home win over fellow knockout stage entrants Arsenal. Here are the happy Legend players celebrating their big win.

At Liege, Belgium:

With goalkeeper Sinan Bolat scoring an unlikely equalizer in second-half stoppage time
(90'+5), Standard Liege gained a 1-1 home draw with AZ Alkmaar to gain entrance into the Europa League's knockout stage while ending the Dutch club's European campaign. Here, we seen Standard' s Wilfried Dalmat (left) turning away from AZ's Sebastien Pocognoli.

1. Arsenal (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 13)
2. Olympiacos (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 10)

4. AZ Alkmaar (GP: 6; GD: -4; PTS; 4)


Arsenal and Olympiacos advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage, while Standard Liege will take part in the knockout stage of the Europa League. AZ Alkmaar's European campaign ended Wednesday.

UCL Group H: Gunners Advance To Sweet 16; Goose Eggs For Olympiacos And AZ


Group H action in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

At London:

Arsenal assured themselves of finishing atop the Group H
standings with their 2-0 home win over Standard Liege. Samir Nasri (35') and Denilson (45'+2, that's him celebrating) provided the scoring for the Gunners.

At Alkmaar,
Netherlands:

AZ Alkmaar were eliminated from Champions League contention after being held to a 0-0 home draw with Olympiacos, who are now one point away from clinching a berth in the knockout stage. AZ's Jeremain Lens (in the red jersey) is seen challenging for the ball.

UCL Group H: Gunner On Cusp Of Advancing; Standard Stay Alive By Beating Olympiacos



Wednesday action in Group H in the UEFA Champions League.

At London:

Cesc Fabregas doubled (25', 52', that's him celebrating) as Arsenal pounded visitng AZ Alkmaar 4-1 to close within one point of clinching a berth in the knockout stage.

At Liege, Belgium:

Dieudonne Mbokani
(31', he's pictured here celebrating) and Milan Jovanovic (88') provided the goals that lifted Standard Liege to a 2-0 home win over Olympiacos.

UCL Group H: Late Draw Gain Home Draw For AZ; Legend Top Standard Liege At Home

Action in Group H play in the UEFA Champions League resumed on Tuesday.

At Alkmaar, Netherlands:

David Mendes da S
ilva's very late equalizer (90'+3) enabled AZ Alkmaar to salvage a 1-1 home stalemate with Arsenal. Cesc Fabregas scored for the Gunners at 36 minutes. Here, we see the Gunners' William Gallas being challenged by AZ's Bret Holman.

At Athens:

Ieroklis Stoltidis scored the late winning goal (90'+3) as Olympiacos defeated visiting Standard Liege 2-1. Here is the obvious reaction from the Legend players after
the winning goal was scored.

Thanks to late goals from Robin van Persie (7
8', he's pictured here celebrating with teammates) and Cesc Fabregas (86'), Arsenal defeated visiting Olympiacos 2-0.

At Alkmaar, Netherlands:

Moussa Traore
provided the second-half stoppage-time goal (90'+1) that enabled Royal Standard de Liege to gain a 1-1 road draw with AZ Alkmaar. The hosts' goal came at 48 minutes from Mounir El Harndaoui. UCL Group H: Late Goal Puts Legend In Win Column; Big Comeback Road Win For Gunners


Group H play in the UEFA Champions League got underway on Wednesday

At Athens, Greece:

Vassilis Torosidis scored the only goal of the contest at 79 minutes as Olympiacos, playing their first game for new head coach Zico, topped visiting AZ Alkmaar 1-0. Here is a photo of AZ's Brett Holman challenging the Red-Whites' Raul Bravo.

At Liege, Belgium:

Goals from Nicklas Bendtner (45'), Thomas Vermaelen (77', he's seen celebrating with f
ellow Gunner William Gallas), and Eduardo (81') enabled Arsenal to ruin Standard de Liege's group stage debut by coming back from a two-goal deficit and racking up a 3-2 road win.
