Sky Blues Hold Off Jets To Claim Playoff Berth

At Sydney, Australia:


Joel Chianese scored twice in the first half (30', 33') as Sydney FC held off the visiting Newcastle Jets 3-2 on Sunday in the Hyundai A-League regular-season finale for both clubs.  The victory sealed the final available playoff (or finals) berth for the Sky Blues.

Road Draw Keeps Sky Blues Alive For Playoff Berth

At Melbourne, Australia:


Shannon Cole's second-half double (67', 77') enabled Sydney FC to come back from a two-goal deficit and gain a 2-2 Saturday Hyundai A-League road draw with the Melbourne Heart.  Mate Dugandzic (31') and Eli Babalj (36') provided the hosts' tallies.  The Sky Blues, with one game remaining in the regular league season, trail Newcastle for the sixth and final playoff berth due to inferior goal differential (-6 to -2 for the Jets). The Jets and Sky Blues will battle each other in their season finale in Sydney next Saturday.
