Women's Professional Soccer, R. I. P.

The ongoing legal wrangling with an ousted owner may have put the final drain on what money the league had left.

Last year, WPS played with six clubs, all based in the Eastern Time Zone.  One of them, based in Boca Raton, Florida, was expelled after the season.

They had already cancelled their 2012 season with hopes to return for 2013.

This marked the second women's soccer league in the past decade to close up shop after having played three seasons.

WPS Action? What WPS Action ?!

Looks like no Women's Professional Soccer action this year.

Saint Louis Athletica: Rest In Peace

The St. Louis entry in Women's Professional Soccer called it quits on Thursday due to financial problems.  This was the second WPS club to close up shop since the end of their inaugural season last year, with the Los Angeles Sol having ceased operations earlier this calendar year.

Sky Blue FC Capture WPS Crown

At Carson, California:

Heather O'Reilly scored the only goal of the match (16') as New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC knocked off the Los Angeles Sol 1-0 to win the Women's Professional Soccer inaugural championship game on Saturday.
