UCL Group G: Stuttgart Top Unirea To Claim Knockout Stage Berth; Sevilla Put Capper On Rotten Campaign For 'Gers
Wednesday marked the end of Group G play in the UEFA Champions League.
At Stuttgart, Germany:
First-half goals from Ciprian Marica (5'), Christian Trasch (8') and Pavel Pogrebnyak (11') powered VfB Stuttgart to a 3-1 home win over FC Unirea Urziceni to overtake the Romanian club and clinch a Champions League knockout-stage berth while relegating the visitors into the Europa League's round of 32. That's a bunch of happy Stuttgart players celebrating their big win.
At Seville, Spain:
Frederic Kanoute's successful penalty kick at 8 minutes (that's him celebrating) turned out to be the only goal of the match as Sevilla, already having locked up top spot in Group A, put the finishing touches on a dismal campaign for Rangers, defeating the visitors 1-0.
