UCL: Real Madrid and Schalke Advance To Semis

The quarterfinal round of the UEFA Champions League concluded on Wednesday with two games.

At London:

Heurelho Gomes's clanger ends Tottenham's hope of a shock comeback.

Christiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the match at 50 minutes (pictured here is Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes' clumsy attempt at saving the shot) carried Real Madrid to a 1-0 road win in game two over Tottenham Hotspur to finish their 5-0 aggregate win for the two-game series.

The semifinal round is now set, with Schalke to take on Manchester United in one two-game series, with the series to open on April 26 at Gelsenkirchen, Germany, with the return match on May 4 at Manchester, England.

Those two ancient Spanish arch-rivals (who play each other this coming Saturday in Madrid in league play), Real Madrid and Barcelona will get together for the other semifinal series, with the opener to take place in Madrid on April 27 and the return match at Barcelona on May 3.

The winners play against each other at Wembley Stadium in London in the final, to be played on May 28.
