2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Galaxy vs. Dynamo In Rematch Of Last Year's Final

The semifinal round in the Major League Soccer Cup Playoffs concluded with two games played on Sunday.

At Washington:

Boniek Garcia's goal in the 33rd minute gained a 1-1 road draw for the Houston Dynamo in the second match of the Eastern Conference Final with DC United, enabling the hosts to take the series 4-2 on aggregate.

At Seattle:

Robbie Keane successfully converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute as the Los Angeles Galaxy, despite dropping a 2-1 game-two decision on the road, won their two-game Western Conference Final with the Seattle Sounders, 4-2 on aggregate.

The Galaxy will host the Dynamo in the 2012 MLS Cup Final on Saturday December 1 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, where Los Angeles defeated Houston in last year's title game.

2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Dynamo, Galaxy Grab Conference-Final Openers

Two games in the Major League Soccer Cup Playoffs were played on Sunday.

At Houston:

Goals from Andre Hainault (51'), Will Bruin (68'), and Kofi Sarkodie (81') enabled the Houston Dynamo to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and down visiting DC United 3-1 in the opening match of the two-game Eastern Conference Final.  Just before halftime, referee Ricardo Salazar made a no-call on what looked like an obvious foul committed by the Dynamo's Andre Hainault on DCU's Raphael Augusto just outside the Houston penalty area.

The series will move to Washington for Sunday's return match.

At Carson, California:

Robbie Keane scored twice (45'+1, 67') and Mike Magee once (64') as the Los Angeles Galaxy manhandled the visiting Seattle Sounders 3-0 in game one of the two-game Western Conference Final.

The series moves to Seattle for next Sunday second contest.

2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Late Goals Carry DCU, Sounders Into Conference Finals

Two more games were played on Thursday as the Major League Soccer Playoffs continued.

At Harrison, New Jersey:

Nick DeLeon scored the series -winning goal in the 88th minute as DC United defeated the New York Red Bulls 1-0 in game two of their two-match Eastern Conference semifinal series (in concluded with both clubs playing with ten men) and won the series 2-1 on aggregate.  

DC United will visit the Houston Dynamo in the opening match of their two-game Eastern Conference final this coming Sunday (at 1:00 PM, Pacific Time), with the return contest to take place in Washington on November 18 (also at 1:00 PM Pacific Time).

At Sandy, Utah:

Mario Martinez scored the only goal of both the match and the series in the 81st minute as the visiting Seattle Sounders took out Real Salt Lake in game two and their two-game Western Conference semifinal series by the same score---1-0.  The Sounders have advanced to their first Western Conference final.

The Los Angeles Galaxy will host the Sounders this coming Sunday at 6:00 PM Pacific Time in the opening contest of the two-game Western Conference final, with the Sounders hosting the return match at 6:00 PM on November 18 in Seattle.

2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Conference Top Seeds Fall; Dynamo, Galaxy Advance

NOTE:  Wednesday's scheduled second contest of the DC United-New York Red Bulls series (deadlocked at 1-1 on aggregate), originally set for Washington, but moved to Harrison, New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, was postponed until Thursday due to blizzard conditions.

Two games were played on Wednesday as the Major League Soccer playoffs continued.

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Despite dropping a 1-0 game-two decision on the road, the Houston Dynamo won their two-match series with the Eastern Conference's regular-season champions Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on aggregate.  The Dynamo will host the first match of their two-contest Eastern Conference final on Sunday against the DC United-New York winner.

At Santa Clara, California:

Robbie Keane scored twice in the first half (21', 34') and Mike Magee added what turned out to be the series-winning goal in the 39th minute as the Los Angeles Galaxy recovered from their game-one home setback and knocked off the Supporters Shield-winning San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 on the road in game two and took the series 3-2 on aggregate.  The Galaxy will host the winner of the Seattle Sounders-Real Salt Lake series in the opening match of the two-game Western Conference final on Sunday night.

2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Dynamo, Quakes Claim Series Openers

Action in the Major League Soccer playoffs continued on Sunday with two games, one in each conference.

At Houston:

Adam Moffat (18') and Will Bruin (75') each tallied once as the Houston Dynamo blanked visiting Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in the opening game of their two-match Eastern Conference semifinal series, which will conclude this coming Wednesday at Kansas City, Kansas.

At Carson, California:

Victor Bernardez delivered the only goal of the match in second-half stoppage time (90'+4) as the San Jose Earthquakes knocked off the home-standing Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game Western Conference semifinal series, which will come to a close this coming Wednesday night at Santa Clara, California.

2012 MLS Cup Playoffs: Red Bulls And DCU Battle To Bizarre Series-Opening 1-1 Draw

At Washington:

Bill Hamid's own goal in the 65th minute enabled the New York Red Bulls to gain a 1-1 road draw with DC United in the opening match of their Major League Soccer Eastern Conference semifinal series, a game that was originally set to be played at Harrison, New Jersey, but moved to the nation's capital due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy (the return match will be played on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena).  Red Bulls defender Roy Miller scored an own goal in the 61st minute that gave DC a short-lived 1-0 advantage.

In the 71st minute, DCU's right back Andy Najar, who  had just been booked on a hard challenge to the Red Bulls' Joel Lindpere, threw the ball at referee Jair Maffuro and was issued a second yellow card and was ejected, forcing the hosts to play the rest of the match with ten men.  He will miss the return match on Wednesday in New Jersey.

MLS Cup Playoffs: Sounders and RSL Battle To Series-Opening Scoreless Stalemate As Goalkeepers Star

At Seattle:

The opening contest of the Major League Soccer Western Conference semifinal series between the Seattle Sounders and visiting Real Salt Lake ended in a 0-0 draw on Friday night.  Both goalkeepers----RSL's Nick Rimando (with five saves--and who finished the match despite playing the last twenty minutes with a swollen eye) and the Sounders' Michael Gspurling (four saves)----turned in outstanding performances.

The series will conclude at Sandy, Utah next Thursday night.

MLS Cup Playoffs: Late Goals Get Galaxy By Caps; Los Angeles To Get Quakes Next

At Carson, California:

Goals from Mike Magee (69') and Landon Donovan (PK-73') enabled the Los Angeles Galaxy to come from behind to upend the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Thursday night in the Western Conference knockout-round match as the Major League Soccer playoffs continued.

The Galaxy will host the opening match of their Western Conference semifinal series with the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday with the return match to take place at Santa Clara, California on Wednesday.

MLS Cup Playoffs: Will Bruin Helps Ruin Fire

At Bridgeview, Illinois:

Will Bruin scored twice (13', 46') as the Houston Dynamo held off the home-standing Chicago Fire 2-1 on Wednesday night in the Eastern Conference knockout (or wild card) contest as the Major League Soccer playoffs commenced.

The Dynamo will host Sporting Kansas City in the opening match of a two-match Eastern Conference semifinal series on Sunday, with the return match set for next Wednesday at Kansas City, Kansas.
