UEFA Champions League, Group G: Horses Stampede Blancos In Madrid In Shocker; Plzen Knock Off Roma To Lock Up Europa League Round-of-32 Berth

Action from Group G of the UEFA Champions League came to a close on Wednesday with two games.

At Madrid:

Fyodor Chalov (37'), Georgi Shchennikov (43'), and Arnor Sigurdsson (73'; his goal is shown here) each scored once as CSKA Moscow dominated defending champs Real Madrid 3-0 on the road.

The victory was still not good enough for the Horses to continue their European campaign, which ended with Viktoria Plzen's victory over AS Roma.

At Plzen, Czech Republic:

Tomas Chory scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute as FC Viktoria Plzen knocked off visiting AS Roma 2-1 to gain a berth in the knockout stage of the Europa League.

1. Real Madrid (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 12)
2. AS Roma (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 9)
3. FC Viktoria Plzen (GP: 6; GD: -9; PTS: 7)
4. CSKA Moscow (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 7)

Real Madrid and AS Roma advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage.

FC Viktoria Plzen, who had a win and a draw in two games with CSKA Moscow, qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League.

UEFA Champions League, Group G: Blancos, Roma Advance To Knockout Stage

Two games in Group G of the UEFA Champions League were contested on Tuesday.

At Moscow:

Lukas Hejda scored the winning goal in the 81st minute as FC Viktoria Plzen knocked off CSKA Moscow 2-1 on the road.

Plzen goalkeeper Ales Hruska, shown here,  could not stop a successful penalty kick from the Horses' Nikola Vlasic in the tenth minute for the lone CSKA goal.

At Rome:

Gareth Bale (47') and Lucas Vazquez (59') each scored once as Real Madrid blanked AS Roma 2-0 on the road.  Both clubs are heading for the Champions League's knockout stage with Los Blancos locking up top spot in Group G.

UEFA Champions League, Group G: Road Win For Roma

Two games were contested in Group G of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

At Moscow:

Lorenzo Pellegrini scored the game winner in the 59th minute as AS Roma defeated CSKA Moscow 2-1 on the road.

At Plzen, Czech Republic:

Karim Benzema scored twice (21', 37'; that's him celebrating with teammates after one of his tallies) as Real Madrid destroyed FC Viktoria Plzen 5-0 on the road, leaving the Czech club eliminated from the tournament.

UEFA Champions League, Group G: Tuesday Wins For Roma, Los Blancos

Two games were contested in Group G of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

At Rome:

Edin Dzeko scored twice (30', 43') as AS Roma dominated visiting CSKA Moscow 3-0.

Here's a view of the crashed escalator at the "Republica" subway station in Rome.  Many of the folks who were injured were fans of the visiting Horses.

At Madrid:

Marcel scored the winning goal in the 55th minute as Real Madrid defeated visiting FC Viktoria Plzen 2-1.

UEFA Champions League, Group G: Los Blancos Open Title Defense By Plugging Roma; Viktoria Plzen and Horses Draw

Two games were contested on the opening day of UEFA Champions League Group G play on Wednesday.

At Madrid:

Isco (45'), Gareth Bale (58'), and Mariano Diaz (90'+2, that's him celebrating after scoring) each scored once as Real Madrid opened their Champions League title defense by dominating visiting AS Roma 3-0.

At Plzen, Czech Republic:

Fydor Chalov (49') and Nikola Vlasic (PK-90'+5) each delivered a goal as CSKA Moscow came back from two goals down to gain a 2-2 road draw with FC Viktoria Plzen.

Michael Krmencik scored both of the Czech clubs goals in the 29th and 41st minutes.  That's him, right, celebrating after scoring his second tally.
