Despite being held to a 0-0 stalemate at home by Israel, Switzerland locked up first place in Group Two and a berth in next year's World Cup finals.

At Chorzow, Poland:
Seweryn Gancarszyk's own goal at 3 minutes held up as Slovakia defeated Poland 1-0 on the road to lock up Group Three and their first-ever appearance in the World Cup finals.
