MLS Cup Playoffs: Hoops and Red Bulls Take Series Openers

Two more first-round series in the Major League Soccer playoffs opened on Saturday.

At Frisco, Texas:

Jeff Cunningham (43') and Eric Avila (87') each scored a goal as FC Dallas came from behind to defeat Real Salt Lake 2-1 at home in the opening game of a two-game Western Conference semifinal series.

At Santa Clara, California:

Joel Lindpere scored the only goal of the match at 55 minutes as the New York Red Bulls took the opening match of their two-game Eastern Conference semifinal series with the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on the road.
