US Open Cup: DC United Tops Philly In Shootout To Reach Qualification Semifinal; SKC Reach Qualification Finals

Two more games in the qualifying stage for the US Open Cup took place on Wednesday.


At Boyds, Maryland:


The play-in match between the Philadelphia Union and DC United was deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time and at 2-2 after each team scored once during 30 overtime minutes.  United took the penalty-kick shootout 4-2 and advanced to the qualification semifinals.


At College Station, Texas:


C. J. Sapong scored the only goal of the match in overtime (91') as Sporting Kansas City knocked off the Houston Dynamo in a qualification semifinal contest 1-0.  SKC will next take on the DC United-New England Revolution winner for a berth in the tournament proper.
